Wednesday Night Dive and Snorkel
We had 3 snorkellers and 6 camera shy divers out at Runswick Bay on Wednesday, unfortunately the easterly wind blew up in the afternoon and killed the visibilty for the snorkelers, the divers had a bit of a swim out into the bay to get visibility. Still they spotted lobsters, a Cat shark (Dog fish) and a large flat fish among the other life on the reef.
There was little swell so the snorkeler went in "to get wet", we tested a new suit, Andy had his first snorkel in the North Sea and we saw a Crab.
Ended with a social shandy in The Royal.

We had our first combined Snorkel and Diving Trip last night at Runswick Bay . Diving members and members of the Snorkel Group explored the bay at low water. Water temp was about 13 degs and in fairness the divers had the best of the visibility this time. I think the recent high offshore winds had blown alot of crud (Tech Term) into the near shore water. Still a nice evening and fish, crabs and general marine life, divers finding a Lumpsucker guarding its eggs, followed by a shandy in the Royal Hotel.

Fun long weekend on the Isle of Arran.

Our first dive led by Anna was Black Rock Sea Grass Bed, it was a fairly extensive bed of sea grass, with lots of life, peacock worms, Jellyfish, Burrowing anemones and a Dogfish.

Our boat diving on Saturday was rescheduled due to the weather, so we adapted our plans and took shelter in the north of the Island at Lochranza. Another nice easy access dive rummaging on a slope , with plenty of crabs , anemones, a pipefish and King scallops .

Sunday we headed out on the RV Coast Explorer to dive Fullerton Rock at Kings cross, a beautifully scenic wall dive. Lots of colourful Dead mans fingers, sponges, Devonshire cup corrals and long clawed squat lobsters at the base. After a sheltered surface interval we explored a small unnamed wreck in about 7-10 m, lots of Plumnose anemones on board, highland dancer eggs were seen on the sand, and a hugh lobster was found guarding the wreck.

Our non divers explored the Brodick Castle and Gardens, had a Spa Day, enjoyed the wildlife and we all finished with a social evening.
Great weekend, thanks to the crew of RV Coast Explorer and the stafff at the COAST Discovery Centre for their support and advice.

Our Cleveland divers trip to Scotland this April started really well, with some beautiful Beer Garden weather on the the Thursday Night , unfortunately the weather didn't quite hold, and the traditional Scottish rainwear and wooly hats came out. Still we shore dived in Loch Creran , Sound of Shuna and Loch Melfort over the weekend and managed a nice social weekend in Oban.
Looking forward to next trip to the Isle of Arran

Not really diving or snorkelling but as BSAC Andy Torbet says " snorkels, cylinders and rebreathers are just tools for the job" I just extended it to include "Wellies". Rockpooling is a good way to keep people connected to the sea during the stormy winter on our coast.

Here is an amazing look at the winter underwater world off the North East coast
