🚤 Democracy delivered by water.

We were proud to see Argyll Boat Tours’ vessel Hasty Two playing an important role in the democratic process recently - securely transporting ballot boxes across the loch during the local election count. 🗳️⚓

Footage was even featured on BBC News on 8th May, highlighting the unique logistics involved in serving Scotland’s island and coastal communities.

It’s not every day a wildlife and passenger tour boat becomes part of national news, but we’re delighted to support our local communities whenever needed.

A huge thank you to skipper and everyone involved in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of the ballot boxes.

🚢 The Sugar Boat Shipwreck | A hidden story beneath the Clyde
Just off the coast near the mouth of the River Clyde lies one of the area’s most intriguing maritime stories; the Sugar Boat shipwreck 🌊

In 1974, a cargo vessel carrying sugar ran aground in the Firth of Clyde after encountering difficulties in rough conditions. The ship was later deliberately beached in shallow waters near Kilcreggan to prevent it from sinking in deeper water. Over time, what remained became known locally as the “Sugar Boat” wreck.

Today, parts of the wreck can still be seen from the water, depending on tide and conditions 👀

It sits quietly beneath the surface as a reminder of the Clyde’s long history of trade, industry, and maritime traffic, where working vessels once moved everything from goods to passengers through these busy waters.

Now, instead of cargo ships and industrial activity, the area is better known for its wildlife, scenery, and leisure boating. On calm days, it’s not unusual to spot seals nearby, with seabirds often gathering around the structure 🦭🐦

When you pass it on one of our tours, you’re not just looking at a wreck—you’re looking at a piece of Clyde history, slowly being reclaimed by nature. 🌿
It’s one of those quiet, unexpected moments on the water that makes the west coast so special.
