Two weeks in Vietnam. One incredible family adventure.

Vietnam is a fantastic destination for a family holiday, particularly if you want to combine different places and experiences in one trip.

I recently put together this two-week itinerary for a family of clients, taking them from the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh City in the south to Hanoi in the north.

Their journey included exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels and the waterways of the Mekong Delta, discovering the beautiful lantern-lit streets of Hoi An and learning about Vietnam’s imperial history in Hue.

They also enjoyed an overnight cruise through Ha Long Bay, surrounded by its extraordinary limestone islands, before exploring the capital, Hanoi.

It’s an itinerary that brings together so many different sides of Vietnam, with history, culture, incredible scenery and experiences for the whole family.

And with so much variety, it’s a country where you can create a holiday around your family’s interests, ages and how you like to travel.

In Part 2, I’ll be sharing more about why Vietnam is such a brilliant choice for families and how you could plan your own adventure.

Is Vietnam somewhere you’ve ever considered visiting? Is it on your radar? If not, it really should be.

Vietnam is surprisingly accessible, surprisingly affordable and a fantastic destination for families.

There’s so much to see and do, so much variety, and something for everyone. From its cities and historic towns to its beaches and extraordinary landscapes, you can experience so many different sides of the country in one holiday.

It’s also a brilliant destination for a multi-centre trip, particularly if you’re travelling as a family and want a mixture of experiences.

Next week, I’ll be sharing a two-week itinerary I’ve recently put together for a family of clients, to give you an idea of just how much you can fit into a Vietnam holiday.

In the meantime, is Vietnam on your wish list?

TRAVEL INSPIRATION FOR NOVEMBER

Five very different destinations worth considering if you’re thinking about getting away next month.

From warm-weather escapes to autumn city breaks, here are five places I’d be looking at.

📧 [email protected]

OMAN

November is a lovely time to explore Oman, with warm sunshine and comfortable temperatures for getting out and discovering the country.

Beautiful hotels, dramatic mountains, desert landscapes and the fascinating culture of Muscat make this a brilliant choice if you’re looking for something beyond a traditional beach holiday.

SEVILLE

If you fancy a European city break, Seville is a wonderful choice in November.

The intense summer heat has eased, making it much more comfortable to explore its beautiful architecture, winding streets and historic neighbourhoods.

And there’s always time for tapas and a long lunch.

MAURITIUS

November brings warmer weather to Mauritius as the island heads towards summer.

With its beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts, mountain scenery and fascinating mix of cultures, there’s much more to Mauritius than simply relaxing beside a pool.

A lovely choice if you’re looking for a tropical escape with a little exploring thrown in.

NEW YORK

There’s something special about New York in November.

Central Park’s autumn colours, crisp mornings, cosy restaurants and the first signs of Christmas appearing across the city.

Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, this is a wonderful time to experience Manhattan.

CAPE TOWN

November is a fantastic time to visit Cape Town as spring gives way to summer.

From Table Mountain and the beautiful coastline to fantastic restaurants and the nearby Cape Winelands, it’s a destination that rewards getting out and exploring.

And if you have more time, Cape Town works brilliantly as part of a longer South African adventure.

ISTANBUL & CAPPADOCIA | AN EIGHT-NIGHT ADVENTURE

I recently arranged this fantastic trip for clients who wanted to explore two very different sides of Turkey.

First stop was Istanbul, where they spent four nights split between two different areas of the city.

I arranged private guiding so they could really get to know Istanbul, explore its history and culture and make the most of their time there.

Then it was on to Cappadocia for another four nights and the now iconic sunrise hot-air balloon flight, floating above Cappadocia’s extraordinary landscape.

Istanbul is a city full of history, incredible architecture, bustling streets and fantastic food. Cappadocia feels like another world entirely, with its remarkable rock formations, valleys and spectacular scenery.

Four nights in each gave my clients time to experience both destinations without rushing from one place to the next.

If Istanbul and Cappadocia are on your travel wish list, I’d love to help you plan your own adventure.

EPIC FAMILY ADVENTURES - PART 2: THAILAND

Last week I shared the first part of our family adventure, which took us to Singapore for four nights. Next stop was Thailand, where we combined two very different experiences: an incredible jungle adventure at Elephant Hills and beach time in Khao Lak.

We flew into Phuket before heading to Elephant Hills for their two-night Lake Safari, spending one night at the jungle camp and another at the floating camp on Cheow Lan Lake.

Our days were packed with activities, from kayaking and river rafting to hiking through the jungle to explore a cave and spending time with the elephants.

But one of the things I remember most is waking up on the lake, completely surrounded by rainforest, listening to the sounds of the jungle and watching the sun rise over the water.

It’s such a special experience and a completely different side of Thailand to the one most people imagine.

After all that adventure, we headed to Khao Lak for six nights at Avani+ Khao Lak Resort, staying in a two-bedroom suite that worked brilliantly for us as a family.

This part of the holiday was much more relaxed. Beautiful beaches, boat trips out to the islands, lovely local restaurants, massages and plenty of time enjoying the hotel.

And that’s exactly why I love this itinerary.

We had the excitement of exploring Singapore, the adventure of Elephant Hills and then the opportunity to slow down and enjoy Thailand’s beautiful coastline.

Three completely different experiences in one family holiday, with something for everyone.

If you’re looking for a family adventure that goes beyond a traditional beach holiday, this is a combination I’d definitely recommend.

I’d love to help you plan something similar.

EPIC FAMILY ADVENTURES - PART 1: SINGAPORE 🇸🇬

First stop on our family adventure through Singapore and Thailand was four nights in Singapore, and we certainly packed plenty in.

We stayed at the Hilton Singapore Orchard, which was a fantastic central base for exploring the city.

One of our days took us from the beautiful Gardens by the Bay to Marina Bay Sands, where we headed up to the observation deck for those spectacular views across Singapore. We explored the Marina Bay area, took in the Singapore Flyer and even managed to fit in a Singapore Sling at the famous Raffles Hotel.

Of course, travelling with the boys meant a visit to Universal Studios on Sentosa Island was a must!

And then there’s the food.

One of the things I love about Singapore is its incredible food scene, particularly the hawker centres. We visited Maxwell Food Centre, where you can try all sorts of delicious local dishes without spending a fortune.

Singapore is such a brilliant destination for families. It’s easy to get around, there’s an enormous amount to see and do, and you can combine big-city experiences with some fantastic family attractions.

It’s also a great place to begin a longer adventure around Southeast Asia, which is exactly what we did.

After four nights, we flew to Phuket before heading into the jungle for two nights at Elephant Hills, followed by some beach time in Khao Lak - stay tuned for Part 2…

If you’re thinking about a family adventure that combines a little bit of everything, I’d love to help you plan it.

“WE WANT TO GET OFF THE BEATEN TRACK.” 🌿

When my clients told me they wanted something a little different for their next adventure, they weren’t kidding!

They decided on Guatemala and Belize, combining some exploring with a little beach time at the end.

And when I say exploring, I mean heading deep into the Guatemalan jungle, travelling by boat to reach a remote eco-lodge where there was no Wi-Fi and very little connection to the outside world.

Exactly what they were looking for.

They spent time discovering Guatemala before heading to Belize for a completely different experience, finishing their adventure with some time by the beach.

I absolutely love putting together trips like this. Not everyone wants a five-star resort or a conventional holiday, and some of the most memorable experiences happen when you’re prepared to venture a little further.

Whether it’s a remote jungle lodge, a multi-country adventure or somewhere you’ve never even considered visiting, there’s a whole world of possibilities beyond the obvious choices.

And if you’ve got an idea for an adventure, I’d love to hear it.

SIX MONTHS AROUND THE WORLD - PART 2 🌎

Yesterday I shared the first half of an extraordinary six-month adventure I arranged for my clients, taking them through Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and French Polynesia.

But they weren’t finished yet!

Next came America, starting in Los Angeles before travelling towards San Francisco, exploring national parks along the way and heading on to Las Vegas.

Then it was up to Vancouver for a journey through the Canadian Rockies to Calgary, before flying south to Miami.

And after all those months of travelling, they finished with some time exploring Miami and the Florida Keys before finally heading home.

One thing I particularly love about this trip is that it wasn’t six months of five-star hotels. Some accommodation was more luxurious than others, but that was never the point.

They wanted to explore, experience as much as possible and make the most of having six months to see the world.

They arrived home in July, and I caught up with them recently to hear all about it. After months of planning and following their travels, it was wonderful to hear their stories and find out which experiences had stayed with them.

For me, this is what tailor-made travel is all about. Not necessarily luxury at every stop, but putting together the right itinerary, accommodation and experiences for the people taking the trip.

And you don’t need six months to have an adventure like this. Whether you’ve got six weeks, six months or something in between, there are so many possibilities.

If you’ve ever dreamed of taking time out to travel the world, I’d love to help you make it happen. 🌍

“WE WANT TO TRAVEL THE WORLD.” 🌍

When my clients came to me with the idea of taking six months to travel around the world, my response was pretty simple.

“Yes! Let’s do it.”

And so began the planning of one of the biggest adventures I’ve ever put together.

First stop was Singapore, before heading to Australia for three months.

And they certainly made the most of those three months! Perth, Tasmania, Melbourne, an epic east coast road trip, the Great Barrier Reef and the beautiful Whitsundays, where the photograph on the opening slide was taken.

From Australia, they headed to New Zealand for three weeks of exploring, followed by a few days in French Polynesia.

Just imagine how much they’d already seen and experienced by this point.

And they still had another huge part of their adventure ahead of them.

Tomorrow I’ll share Part 2, when they head to America, travel through the Canadian Rockies and finish their six-month journey in Florida.

Six months around the world. And this was only the first half. 🌎
