Archaeologist Paul Belford has launched a new ‘handcrafted’ app that gives users information about historic buildings and archaeological sites in Shrewsbury.

Happy 98th birthday to the widened English Bridge, which was reopened by Queen Mary on this day in 1927.

The plaque reads:

'The English Bridge was built in 1765-1774 on the site of an earlier bridge. In 1926-1927 it was taken down and completely rebuilt, its steep gradient halved, its width increased by 26 and a half feet, and every sound stone in the original structure re-used. The bridge was opened by Her Majesty the Queen on the 13th of August 1927.'
