Cheapest. Top rated. Trending. Bestseller.

They are useful labels, but none of them tells you whether a holiday is right for you.

The cheapest option may involve the worst journey. The top-rated hotel may be in the wrong location. The bestseller may simply suit a different type of traveller.

The right holiday starts with your priorities, not someone else’s ranking.

Mention Ayia Napa and many people immediately picture clubs, crowds and late nights.

That reputation is not invented, but it is only one version of the destination.

Choose the right area and hotel, and the same holiday can be about clear water, sheltered coves, coastal scenery and quiet mornings.

This is why I do not recommend a destination based only on its name or reputation. Where you stay can completely change the experience.

The cheapest flight is not always the best-value flight.

Saving £80 might mean an extra connection, an awkward departure time or six more hours spent travelling.

Sometimes that trade-off is completely reasonable. The saving matters, the journey is manageable and you would rather keep the money for the holiday.

But sometimes you are giving away half a day of a trip you have waited months to take.

I compare more than the price on the screen. I look at the complete journey and explain what the cheaper option actually costs in time and convenience.

Croatia makes it very tempting to squeeze in one more island, one more town and one more ferry.

On paper, it looks like you are getting more from the trip.

In reality, every change of hotel means packing, checking out, reaching the port, waiting, travelling, finding the next hotel and unpacking again.

A short itinerary can quickly become a tour of ferry terminals and hotel receptions.
