Sharing because I see too many families unfairly penalised by a system that offers no flexibility or compassion to families who just cannot either afford holiday prices or parents legitimately cannot get school holidays off.

Children need quality time with their families and those memories and experiences are so valuable!

It’s not even just about holidays abroad - many families are even out-priced from UK breaks

We believe school fines & prosecutions do not help to improve school attendance. They are a blunt, ineffective tool & they do not tackle the root cause of attendance difficulties. I'm proposing the law is changed to ban FPNs & prosecutions. This will encourage collaboration rather than punishment.

🐅 ONE MONTH TO GO: INDIA IS CALLING 🇮🇳

And you all know how much I love seeing wild animals in their natural habitat, so there was absolutely no chance I could visit India without attempting to track down the most elusive of them all… the Bengal tiger 🐅

In September, I will be heading off on a 9-night Golden Triangle journey with a wildlife twist.

Think expert local guides, atmospheric city walks, palaces, colourful bazaars, river landscapes and, if I am very lucky, a glimpse of one of India’s magnificent Bengal tigers.

My journey will take me through:

▪️ Ranthambhore National Park
▪️ Jaipur
▪️ Agra and the Taj Mahal
▪️ The beautiful Chambal Valley

India is home to over 70% of the world’s wild tiger population, so while I count down the days, here is my mini guide to tiger spotting in India.

WHERE TO GO

Ranthambhore is one of India’s best-known places to spot tigers, with open landscapes, watering holes and ancient ruins providing a rather spectacular backdrop.

WHEN TO GO

November to April is the most popular time to visit. April and May can be particularly rewarding as rising temperatures draw wildlife towards the remaining waterholes. It will be bloody hot, though!

HOW IT WORKS

Morning and afternoon safaris take place in shared or private vehicles with an expert guide.

Of course, no sighting is ever guaranteed. That is both the magic and the frustration of it.

There is plenty more to look out for too, including leopards, sloth bears, deer, crocodiles and some incredible birdlife.

Although let’s be honest, I will still be desperately scanning every patch of long grass for stripes 🐅 👀

GOOD TO KNOW

Safari permits and the most popular zones fill quickly, so booking early is essential.

Pack neutral colours and take a decent zoom lens as camera phones are not allowed to be used in the park!

School attendance fines are issued per parent, per child - so that “bargain” break can become considerably less of a bargain once the fines start multiplying.

The rules apply when a child reaches 10 sessions - usually five school days of unauthorised absence within a rolling 10 school-week period.

A little reminder about supporting small businesses… ✈️💚

We’re all pretty good at supporting our friends’ businesses.

We buy the brownies.
We order the candles.
We book the beautician.
We recommend the plumber.
We share their posts.
