Reports this week revealed that an easyJet flight travelling from London Gatwick to Tenerife was given priority landing after crew members had to deal with a number of disruptive passengers onboard. Police were waiting for the aircraft when it arrived, and thankfully the flight landed safely. ✈️

While incidents like this remain relatively rare, they serve as an important reminder that holidays start the moment you arrive at the airport β€” and that everyone's journey is more enjoyable when passengers respect both the crew and their fellow travellers.

If you're planning a European getaway over the coming months, there are some important changes on the horizon that are worth knowing about.

The European Union is introducing its new Entry/Exit System (EES), which will modernise border controls for non-EU visitors, including UK travellers. As part of the process, travellers will have biometric information recorded, including a facial image and fingerprints, when entering participating countries.

While the aim is to make border crossings more secure and efficient in the long term, travel industry experts have warned that some airports and border crossings could experience longer queues during the initial rollout period as travellers and authorities get used to the new system.

πŸ“… One date to keep an eye on is September, when some of the temporary measures that currently allow border authorities flexibility during periods of heavy congestion are expected to be phased out. This could mean the full biometric process is applied more consistently across participating destinations.

The good news? Once your biometric details have been registered, future journeys should be quicker and more streamlined, with many travellers expected to use facial recognition for subsequent entries.

πŸ›‚ Another upcoming change is ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System), which is expected to launch after EES. The travel permit is expected to cost €20, remain valid for up to three years, and will be required by UK travellers visiting participating European countries.
