It isn't always easy and can be a challenge but it is worthwhile when you get that message to say they are having an amazing holiday. This week is Small Business Week, and it’s a brilliant reminder of just how much our local independents do for our communities.

From the coffee you grab on the school run to the gifts you buy in town, every time you choose to “shop local” you help a real person, not just a logo.

As an independent travel specialist, I am a small local business too. When you book your holidays with me, you are not just another reference number. I genuinely care about you and your travel plans and your peace of mind.

So this week, if you can, choose the local butcher, the independent boutique, the family run cafe…and your local travel expert when you are ready to plan your escape.

If you let me know your budget, I'll always do my best to find the best possible options within that amount. And if what you're hoping for isn't quite achievable, I'll have an honest conversation with you about what's realistic and where you can get the best value for your money.

Since Covid, we're simply not seeing the same volume of cheap "deals" that were around in 2022 when airlines and hotels were heavily incentivising people to travel again. However, there are still plenty of ways to make your holiday budget go further:

💷 Consider Self Catering or B&B instead of All Inclusive. Not only can this save money, but it often gives you a more authentic experience and supports local businesses.

💷 Be open to indirect flights. These can sometimes offer significant savings and, in some cases, airlines allow you to stop over in their hub city at no extra airfare, giving you the chance to explore another destination along the way.

💷 Stay flexible with duration. A 10-night holiday instead of 14 nights can often make a big difference to the overall cost.

💷 Twin-centre holidays can be a great option. If there's a hotel you've always wanted to experience but it's out of budget for the entire trip, splitting your stay between two properties can work brilliantly. (It's something I can arrange that many online travel agents can't.)

💷 Book early. Scheduled flights are usually released around 11 months before departure and airlines operate multiple fare levels on each flight. The cheapest seats are usually the first to sell, so waiting often means paying more.

Just booked for my honeymoon customers

I thought I would update you on a few things that have been going on in the background recently regarding the business as it has been a busy month or so

Firstly I have 2 new members added to the team who will be invaluable to my business going forward, Firstly welcome to Emma Wainwright who many will have spoken with already possibly and she will be looking after all of the aftersales for us , this will include checking in, issuing tickets and liaising with hotels along with being able book all your ancillaries like parking and lounges. This will be a huge help ensuring you are all still looked after from start to finish and my customers who have dealt with Emma are already singing her praises, the fact she is also a TC and has exceptional travel experience herself helps immensely of course

Also I am adding Jess Masters to the team who will be looking after all your tailormade USA trips, all those backroad trips that need proper planning, car hire and first-hand knowledge. Jess has visited over 30 US states and like Emma her experience and knowledge will be invaluable, her passion for travel and how she looks after customers really aligns with how I work as well so it was a no brainer, being able to confidently offer more USA options is going to be a fantastic addition
