I’m slow to share but these thoughts...
As you all have your own, but this verse has been popping up all over the place in my prayers, reading and conversations.
I think it carries significance for 2021.
’Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.’
‘Songs of Ascents’ have been sung by generations of pilgrims in Israel travelling from their villages and towns on various roads through dark valleys and hairy mountain passes, the words brought comfort, joy and hope. Over and over again they would have sung, chanted, hummed and whistled them.
Finally they would ascend the holy hill in Jerusalem to the Temple. The temple was the house of God, it’s original construction dreamed by King David, but he never saw it, God said he would not build the house, but his son Solomon would.
Solomon is often referred to as the wisest King to have ever reigned and he’s attributed to have written this ‘Song of Ascents’ which is in Psalm 127. ’Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.’
This year I believe buildings and structures will continue to be shaken. Investments, visions and dreams that are our own ideas will be in vain. Yes, even great ministries, churches, houses, missions and outreaches may close their doors and services.
But the Lord has a blueprint plan for you and me.
As the Jesus said on another hill in Israel in Matthew 7 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
So 2021…
What is the Lord doing?
What is the Lord building?
What is your pilgrimage song?
Where am I called to labour in the work?
Will my work be in vain or will I build with the Lord?
