🌿🌺 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐚: 𝐀𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭!

A lovely couple who recently travelled to Madeira came home absolutely in love with the island. They were so grateful I found them this little gem to get away for a few days! They stayed in Funchal but spent every day going out for walks, taking little side streets, checking out the local fish/meat/veg markets, discovering restaurants and highly recommending https://en.mozart.restaurant ❤️

They couldn’t stop praising the delicious local food, breathtaking scenery, beautiful gardens and even the locally crafted beers! 🍺 They also walked all the way to Fort of São Tiag, and ventured with the hop on and hop off bus around the island. A certainly immersive experience and certainly squeezed every minute of the 4 days they were there.

Interesting historical fact: did you know that Winston Churchill visited Madeira in 1950 to paint? He was particularly captivated by the picturesque fishing village of 𝐂â𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐝𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐬, where today you’ll find a statue commemorating him painting the beautiful scenery. When we think about a holiday, we often start with a destination.

For me, that’s what makes travel so interesting. It’s not just about 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨, but about what you 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

𝐒𝐨… 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐈𝐒 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐞? 🌍🚢

Last week, I shared why I’m starting to explore the world of expedition cruising.

So, I thought we should start with the obvious question. What actually makes an expedition cruise different from a traditional cruise?

Quite simply, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

Expedition cruises are about exploring some of the world’s more 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬, often aboard smaller ships that can take you where larger cruise ships simply can’t.

You might head out in a Zodiac to explore a dramatic coastline, search for wildlife, walk through incredible landscapes, visit remote communities or learn from experts about the nature, history and culture around you.

And sometimes 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲. Weather, wildlife and ice conditions can change the day’s plans... that’s all part of the adventure!

But expedition cruising doesn’t necessarily mean roughing it. After a day exploring, you can return to the comfort of your ship, enjoy dinner and watch those incredible landscapes drift past.

It’s a very different kind of cruising.

✈️ 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞? 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠!

The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), which will eventually be required for British passport holders and other eligible non-EU travellers visiting many European countries, has been delayed.

EU member states can keep suspending EES (Entry and Exit System) border checks at busy crossings until the end of 2026, ABTA has confirmed. The planned fourth-quarter launch of the ETIAS visa waiver has also been dropped.
