No rushing for coaches. Just the scenery changing gently outside your window as you settle in with a glass of something lovely.

This is travel the way it should feel; relaxed, enriching, and seamless.

Whether it's your first cruise or your fifth, the Rhine will charm you with medieval towns, warm local wine, and history around every bend.

Some places don't just take your breath away, they give it back to you.

Alaska is that place.

Imagine standing at the edge of a glacier that's been carving its path for thousands of years, the silence so complete you can hear your own heartbeat. Or watching a humpback whale breach just metres from your vessel, unhurried and completely unbothered by the smallness of everything else around it.

This is Alaska - raw, breathtaking, and utterly unlike anywhere else on earth.

For travellers who've seen a lot of the world and still hunger for something that genuinely moves them, Alaska delivers. Not in a rush, not with a crowd, but in those quiet, golden moments that remind you why you started travelling in the first place.

✨ Glacier hikes with expert guides who know every crack and crevice
✨ Fly-fishing in rivers so clear you'd swear they were glass
✨ Wildlife encounters that no camera can quite do justice
✨ Evenings of complete stillness, under skies wider than imagination

Which Alaska experience is calling your name? Let me know in the comments 👇

Not all expedition cruises are about luxury first; some are about exploration first.

One company that stands out in that space is HX Expeditions, one of the world’s most respected expedition cruise operators.

With roots stretching back more than 130 years, HX has built a reputation for taking curious travellers to some of the most remote and fascinating places on Earth, while helping them understand those environments in a much deeper way.

Think expedition teams made up of marine biologists, geologists and historians. Zodiac landings in remote wilderness. Wildlife encounters you simply can’t experience on a traditional cruise.

Their ships regularly explore destinations such as Antarctica, Greenland, Svalbard, and Alaska, places where the focus isn’t onboard entertainment, but the incredible landscapes and wildlife outside your window.

What I particularly like about HX is the emphasis on learning and discovery. Ships even include science centres where guests can take part in citizen science projects and hear daily talks from the expedition team.

It’s expedition cruising in the truest sense of the word, designed for travellers who are genuinely curious about the world.

I’ve put together a short carousel explaining what makes HX different and why so many adventurous travellers choose them.

If you could choose one expedition destination, would it be somewhere icy like Antarctica or somewhere wild and remote like the Galápagos? Let me know in the comments!

Antarctica: The Last Great Wilderness

Some places feel special, but Antarctica feels almost unreal. Towering icebergs drift silently through glassy water. Penguins gather along vast white shorelines. The only sounds are the crack of distant glaciers and the call of seabirds overhead. It is one of the few places left on Earth that truly feels untouched.

Reaching Antarctica is part of the adventure itself. Expedition ships cross the famous Drake Passage before arriving at the dramatic landscapes of the Antarctic Peninsula, where towering mountains and deep blue ice dominate the horizon.

Each day brings something different; one morning you may be stepping onto the ice itself, surrounded by curious penguins. Another afternoon might be spent exploring by zodiac, weaving quietly between sculptural icebergs while seals rest on floating ice nearby.

Ships such as those operated by HX Expeditions and Silversea Cruises are designed for this kind of exploration, combining expert expedition teams with comfortable suites, excellent food and welcoming spaces to warm up after a day outdoors. The result is something quite unique: genuine adventure paired with thoughtful comfort.

Antarctica isn’t about ticking off sights. It’s about standing in one of the most extraordinary landscapes on Earth and simply taking it all in.
For many travellers, it becomes the most powerful journey they ever take.

If Antarctica has ever been on your “one day” list, I’d be delighted to talk you through what experiencing it properly really looks like.

Expedition cruising isn’t for everyone, and that’s exactly why the people who try it often become completely hooked.

The travellers who tend to love it most usually share a few things in common.

- They’re curious about the world. Not just the famous sights, but the places that feel wild, remote and a little harder to reach.

- They enjoy being outdoors - watching wildlife, exploring by zodiac, walking across landscapes that feel almost untouched.

- But they also appreciate coming back to a comfortable suite, a good glass of wine, and excellent food at the end of the day.

- They’re not looking for casinos, Broadway shows or packed itineraries.

- Instead, they value expert guides, fascinating lectures, and the kind of moments that simply can’t be replicated on a larger ship; think polar bears in the Arctic, penguins in Antarctica, or remote coastlines where very few travellers ever set foot.

Companies like HX Expeditions and Silversea Cruises have built their reputations around these kinds of journeys - combining genuine exploration with thoughtful comfort and exceptional guiding.

For many people, it becomes the most memorable trip they’ve ever taken.

If you’re the sort of traveller who values experience over excess, nature over crowds, and exploration done well, an expedition cruise might be exactly the kind of adventure you’ve been looking for.

And if you’ve ever been curious about what one of these journeys actually feels like, I’d be happy to talk you through it.

Not all cruise lines are created equal.

Some are about water slides and entertainment. Others are about exploring the world in real depth.

One of the cruise lines for clients who love adventure but still want to travel comfortably is Silversea Cruises.

Their small ships sail to over 900 destinations worldwide, including places like Antarctica, the Galápagos and the Arctic. The experience is very different from a typical cruise: fewer guests, spacious suites, exceptional dining and itineraries designed for travellers who are genuinely curious about the world.

I’ve put together a short carousel explaining what makes Silversea special and why so many experienced travellers love them.

Have a look through and tell me…

Would you rather cruise somewhere classic like the Mediterranean, or somewhere wild like Antarctica?

Imagine driving through vast desert landscapes where the horizon feels endless. Rust-red dunes rising hundreds of metres into the sky. Skeleton trees silhouetted against golden light. Wildlife moving across open plains with barely another vehicle in sight.

This is not a “tick-the-Big-Five” safari. This is space, silence, perspective.

In Sossusvlei, you can climb some of the tallest dunes on Earth at sunrise, the sand cool beneath your feet and the desert glowing around you.

In Etosha National Park, wildlife gathers around waterholes in dramatic, almost theatrical fashion - elephant, lion, giraffe - often viewed from quiet lodges positioned perfectly for the light.

Along the Skeleton Coast, the Atlantic meets shifting desert in a landscape that feels almost otherworldly.

And yet, Namibia is surprisingly comfortable when designed well.

Remote luxury lodges with vast suites.
Private decks facing endless desert.
Expert guides who bring the landscape to life.
Seamless internal flights that remove the long drives.

It’s adventurous, but it’s not rough.

It’s one of the most powerful destinations for people who want something truly different, without sacrificing comfort or ease.

If you’re drawn to big landscapes, this is a country worth considering. If it’s been quietly sitting on your “one day” list, message me and I’ll talk you through how to design an unforgettable trip.

On the surface, booking a safari looks straightforward. You pick a lodge, choose your dates, add a few internal flights.

Done.

Except this is where many people unknowingly overspend or miss out, because in safari planning, small decisions can have expensive consequences.

Choosing the wrong lodge location can mean long daily drives and fewer wildlife sightings.

Booking in the wrong season can dramatically change what you see, and how comfortable the climate feels.

Selecting the wrong flight routing can add unnecessary fatigue before you’ve even reached the bush.

And perhaps most commonly, people pay premium prices for lodges that aren’t actually in the best wildlife areas.

Online, everything looks exceptional. But not all “luxury” lodges are positioned well, not all game reserves offer the same density of wildlife, and not all operators include the same level of guiding or flexibility.

A well-designed safari is about:
• The right reserve
• The right time of year
• The right pacing
• The right balance of camps
• The right internal logistics

Get those right, and a safari becomes extraordinary. Get them slightly wrong, and it can quietly cost you thousands - in both money and missed experience.

This is why thoughtful planning matters so much in wildlife travel. Extraordinary trips don’t happen by accident….they’re made easy when they’re designed properly.

If a safari is on your “one day” list, feel free to message me, even if you’re simply exploring what might be possible.

“I’m not sure I’m fit enough to do that”

A phrase lots of us have said, myself included.

When people think about a safari or an expedition-style journey, they often imagine long hikes, rugged conditions and constant activity. However the reality is usually very different.

On most well-designed safaris, the majority of wildlife viewing is done from a comfortable vehicle. You’re driven by expert guides who know exactly where to go. There’s far more sitting and observing than trekking. Of course, if you want to do bush walks that’s also possible but no one is going to force you.

Even expedition cruises to places like Antarctica are structured with flexibility. Shore landings are guided, assistance is provided, and participation levels are optional. You choose what feels right for you.

The key isn’t being ultra-fit, it’s choosing the right itinerary, the right pace, and the right operator. That’s where thoughtful planning makes all the difference.

If you’ve ever wondered whether an adventure holiday might be “too much,” feel free to message me. Even if you’re just at the thinking stage.

Extraordinary travel doesn’t need to be exhausting, it just needs to be planned properly.
