Just two sleeps until the big Illuminations switch-on event 💡

The switch-on event will mark the start of Blackpool’s iconic six-mile light display along the seafront.

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets for the show, or you’re watching from the live screening zone along the Promenade, we hope you have an incredible time.

There’s just one week until the incredible Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On Event 🥳

On Friday, August 29th, the Illuminations 2025 season will kick off with a free hour-long show with Olly Murs, Louisa Johnson, and a ‘Blackpool Introduces’ showcase of local talent.

Olly will then flick the switch to turn on six miles of immersive light and art displays, blending tradition with modern technology to create one of the UK’s most iconic visitor events.

It’s going to be epic 😃

Blackpool’s food scene has a delicious new addition with the opening of Trend Shawarma 🍴

Offering an authentic taste of Turkey and the Middle East, Trend Shawarma is bringing family recipes passed down through three generations straight to the heart of the town.

Diners can enjoy freshly prepared salads, meze platters, soups, shawarma meals served with salad and a choice of rice or chips, burgers, wraps, grilled dishes including mixed grills, lamb chops, sea bass and chicken, pizza-style fakasha, fried chicken, and a variety of sides.

And if you fancy something sweet afterwards, their menu has lots of indulgent sweet treats such as ice cream, waffles with Nutella or Ferrero Rocher, and fruit platters.

It returns to Olympia inside the Winter Gardens Blackpool on Sunday, August 24th from 11am until 4pm. There will be over 70 independent traders from across Lancashire and the North West, offering handmade gifts, original artwork, jewellery, homewares and artisanal food.

Live music, children’s craft workshops, delicious street food and a friendly atmosphere will make it a great day out for all ages, and dogs are welcome too.

An exciting array of new, fun-packed features have been announced for the 2025 Blackpool Illuminations in collaboration with four nationally acclaimed artists 💡

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen (Official) brings three seven-metre dragons to life on the Tower Festival Headland, combining light, smoke and interactive projections by Ant Dickinson. His playful Lusch Puppy portraits reimagine pampered pooches in regal attire, while Space Canopy, standing 11.2 metres tall, celebrates the motion of stars and satellites.

Robert Fuller Art transforms the roadway into an illuminated open-air gallery of British wildlife, from foxes and badgers to pheasants and birds.

Jason Wilsher-Mills Artist presents LOVE, a six-panel installation telling the story of a lifelong romance inspired by his childhood memories of Blackpool.

My Dog Sighs brings HUG, featuring twelve versions of his Everyman character against vivid, textured backdrops.

The season begins Friday, August 29th, with gates opening at 4pm and performances starting from 5.30pm. The launch will be marked by a special balloted music concert on the Tower Festival Headland. Pop superstar Olly Murs will deliver a free hour-long set before switching on the six miles of Illuminations.

The ballot for free tickets to the big Illuminations switch-on event closes at 10am on August 11th 💡

If you’ve not entered already, now is the time to do it for the chance to score free tickets for the event that’s promising to be bigger and better than ever on Friday, August 29th.

Fresh from his UK-wide arena tour, pop superstar Olly Murs will take to the stage for an hour-long set before he flicks the switch to trigger six incredible miles of Illuminations.

Olly will be joined by English rock band Toploader and X Factor winner Louisa Johnson, plus a special ‘Blackpool Introduces’ showcase, spotlighting some of the best local talent.
