Popular options include the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, and routes through British Columbia like the Sea to Sky Highway or Vancouver Island's Pacific Rim Highway. Yesterday, I posted about self-drive holidays with cars - today is a driving holiday using a campervan or RV. I've got suppliers in lots of countries that hire out RVs - not just the popular places like the USA, Canada or New Zealand. You can explore various European countries as well.

We did just this last year - collecting our RV in Calgary and dropping it off in Vancouver. My top tip is to prebook all your campsites in advance to ensure there is space - camping is a very popular holiday and sites can be busy in high season. Canada is big but basically there are only a couple of roads that take you across the country so its actually not easy to get lost!

A great combination for those short on time looking for a city break abroad. Spend some time in Cape Town with a few nights in the winelands, of course we can add on some time on safari or along the garden route as our itineraries are all tailor made.

On this 'escape to the Cape' holiday you can explore Cape Town's historical city centre with its vibrant mix of cultures, see Cape Point Nature Reserve where two oceans meet, penguin spot on Boulders Beach or simply enjoy the sun setting over the ocean from the Camps Bay beach. Then set off on a tour of the Winelands. Explore the nearby gourmet haven of Franschhoek or off-the-beaten-track, laid-back towns like Paarl and Robertson.

We've done this itinerary as part of a bigger road trip. The Hutton Hotel is right in the centre of the city, perfect for all the music venues. The Guest House at Graceland is a fabulous hotel, right next door to Graceland where Elvis lived. Here also visit Beale Street for an evening of great music (take a cab or Uber though). Your New Orleans hotel is just a few minute walk from the famous Bourbon Street.

You'll clock up a lot of mileage on this itinerary, so maybe consider a second driver.

This week’s focus is on touring holidays – this is when your holiday is spent on the move. There are different ways of achieving this. Today I’m going to look at holidays where you’re in charge of the driving – self-drive holidays.

There are a couple of ways of doing this – you can drive from home and explore the UK or Europe using your own car, or you can fly to almost anywhere in the world and pick up a car. You can pre-plan the whole route, making sure you maximise your time and minimize your mileage or you can just drive where the fancy and signposts take you, spontaneously.

I’d always advise however you plan (or don’t) your route – book hotels for at least the first 2 nights and the last night. The last thing you want to be doing is frantically trying to find somewhere to stay when you’ve just landed or find that your last hotel is miles away from the airport at the end of your trip. Also don’t drive away from the airport if you’ve just done a long-haul flight – you’ll be tired and maybe a little disorientated, get a taxi to a hotel not far from the car hire depot.

😎 The Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, you can see it from almost anywhere in the city. Its a big steep climb but definitely worth getting out of breath for!
