Just a short walk from Merrythought's world famous factory, this first of its kind installation takes you on a fascinating journey through the four generations of their unique company, and its role within the story of the Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site.

MEET THE CREATOR OF BILLY AND RICHMOND🤓

🎞️ Leo Wright is a multi-award winning stop motion filmmaker.

His film, The Big Bad Wolf was directed by Leo at the world famous Aardman Animation Studios - the home of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep.

Most recently, The ‘Big Bad Wolf’ was shortlisted for the Animation category at the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards for best animation - being selected from over 11,750 films into the top 5 animations.

Leo continues to pursue his passion in animation and telling quality, heart-warming stories through the medium of stop motion and bringing those characters into the real world for real-world experiences.

🕵️‍♂️ On Saturday August 16th from 12pm, The Billy and Richmond Project Company in association with Leo Wright Studios - including the collaboration with six independent businesses - are proudly launching a children's 'Detective' character trail on the Ironbridge High Street.

We’ve had a busy summer at Drake Cottage and some lovely reviews from guests! 🌟🐾

Our cosy little cottage is the perfect base for exploring the Ironbridge Gorge – with miles of walking from the doorstep, an enclosed garden for your dog, and plenty of dog-friendly pubs and restaurants nearby.

🌿 We’re absolutely delighted to see that the amazing Nick and Jenny have taken over one of our favourite spots in Ironbridge — and have now reopened it as Courtyard Cafe 🥰

One of the questions we’re asked most often by guests staying at Drake Cottage is where to go for a great breakfast, and we’re thrilled to have such a fantastic new option to recommend.

🍳 Their new addition, The Scrapyard, is a proper full English — hearty, delicious, and perfect to fuel a day exploring the Gorge. You’ll also find all the usual breakfast favourites, served up with a smile.

🐶 Dog friendly, with a stunning view of the Iron Bridge and seating both inside and out — what more could you want?

We really love it when guests get what Drake Cottage is all about.

It’s not super flashy — but it is cosy and comfortable and very peaceful, quiet, and tucked away in one of the most beautiful corners of Ironbridge Gorge.

A proper little hideaway for anyone looking to slow down, switch off, and just enjoy the birds, the owls, and the river.

🦆 If you’re staying at Drake Cottage and fancy stretching your legs, you’re in luck — the 🥾 walking around here is incredible.

One of the reasons it’s so well looked after is thanks to the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust, a brilliant local charity that manages around 700 acres of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site (that’s about 250 football pitches!).

They’ve done an amazing job of creating and maintaining miles of waymarked paths through woodlands, meadows, and old industrial heritage sites — weaving through places like Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale, Jackfield, and Broseley. Whether you’re after a gentle stroll or something a bit more adventurous, there’s something for everyone.

Even better, the Trust has put together a bunch of FREE downloadable walking leaflets to help you plan your route. You can grab them online, or if you’re already out and about, pick them up from the Ironbridge Visitor Centre, the leaflet dispenser in Station Road Car Park, or directly from the Trust.

We absolutely love having this right on the doorstep of the cottage.
