After leaving my raincoat at a yard last week, a day of relentless rain was the last thing I needed. Thankfully, I was looked after exceptionally well with warm drinks and a coat-drying service, while juggling three non-waterproof coats throughout the day. What a day—rain, rain, and more rain! 🌧️😅

This charming, slightly eccentric guy gets anxious pretty easily. He often begins the session tense and high-strung, but little by little I help him unwind. My own reassuring presence wasn't quite cutting it, so I added some of my go-to music 🎶—turns out he's a big fan, and it really soothes him 😴. Funny how the simplest little things can make such a big difference.

Even though we hold our breath, our bodies still take in smoke—through the eyes, the skin, and even seeping in via the nose. Because we’re constantly so close to large amounts of smoke, this makes it a fairly hazardous aspect of the job. Working outdoors is far better, as the smoke dissipates quickly.

This lovely little girl with her severely deformed limb has come such a long way. She finds bending or lifting her limb uncomfortable, so I work within the limits she can tolerate and let her have it back down whenever she needs. She once required sedation or twitching for trims, but with time, patience, and a calmer approach, she now stands happily for me with very few breaks.

She still won’t tolerate rasping the dorsal wall, but that’s no issue — my half-round nippers achieve what’s needed. The improvement in her comfort and movement has already been huge, with even more progress still to come.

Last night I gave a demonstration for the Southwell Young Farmers — it was a lovely event. Huge thanks to Domino, the star of the show, and to Amy, Simon, and Gracie for letting us use him 🤩

It’s not all sunshine and warmth. She also spends time cooling herself down. If she’s not in a water trough, she’ll find a pond, stream, or any kind of water she can.
