Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing communities together to celebrate local stories, historic places and cultural traditions.
Running from Friday 11 to Sunday 20 September 2026, the festival will offer exhibitions, open buildings, tours, talks, performances, workshops, family activities and special events across Norfolk. The programme, of 350+ events, spans Norwich landmarks, coastal heritage, the Broads, historic houses, theatres, cemeteries, museums and railway stories.

In north Norfolk, you can attend Heritage Open Days at Cromer Museum, Cromer Pier, Binham Priory, National Trust Felbrigg Hall and Museum of the Broads to name just a few.

Here's something to whet your appetite! Popping up for the weekend in the Walled Garden at Holkham is the much loved North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival taking place on 5th and 6th September.

Stallholders from across the county will be showcasing and selling products and produce including, fresh meat and game, vegetables, cakes, artisan beer, bread, tarts, juices, bakes, chocolates and much more! Just outside the main festival, you’ll find a dazzling array of concessions offering delicious food for eating on site as well as entertainment ranging from a live cookery theatre to children’s activities and face painting.

Dogs are welcome and the entry is free. Parking is £6.50.

Fossil hunting along north Norfolk's Deep History Coast is an exciting and FREE activity as you may well find your own piece of history dating back millions of years! The stretch of coastline between Weybourne and Cart Gap is home to the earliest evidence of humans in Britain with footsteps left by the UK's first tourists nearly a million years ago, the UK’s biggest mammoth skeleton unearthed at West Runton and a 500,000 year old flint hand axe discovered in Happisburgh. There are many different types of fossils you can come across along north Norfolk's beaches, each telling a different story about the creatures that lived here.
