In 1897 artist Margaret Collyer was commissioned by the owner of Ardtornish House to paint the Highland Cattle at Ardtornish 🎨

Margaret took a particular liking to Victor - a handsome, prize black bull - requesting that he be guided to the top of a high rock so that she could paint him standing proud against the skyline. With the encouragement of seven local men, Victor obliged.

Guests of Ardtornish House can enjoy Collyer's original painting, hung pride of place in The Drawing Room.

Low tide at the head of Loch Aline brings some extra special visitors 🦅

White-tailed Sea Eagles — Britain’s largest bird of prey with a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres — are opportunistic scavengers and will take full advantage of the rich pickings exposed by the retreating tide.

If you’re lucky, you might just catch sight of one soaring overhead or perched regally on the shore.

"Ardtornish is the perfect location for wildlife watching and enjoying the peace and quiet of this wonderful area. We have enjoyed nightly visits from pine martens, have watched otters just outside the house, and had amazing views of a pair of golden eagles on one of our longer hikes. Everyone at Ardtornish has been really friendly and helpful - couldn’t ask for more and will definitely be recommending (but only to people we really like 🙂)"

The garden at Ardtornish has been sculpted out of a rocky hillside, from every part of which are extensive views south-west along Loch Aline to the northern hills of the Isle of Mull 🌱🪻 🪺

From today, everybody is welcome to explore the gardens free of charge ✨
