Hello out there! 👋

After a fantastic time hosting you for dinner or 'Steam & Stay' we've bid a fond farewell to Meadowdore and our pop-up stint in there

We're chuffed to announce that after weeks of sawing, sanding, hammering, wiring, painting, form filling, planning, two broken toilets, out of stock ovens, a minor flood, three rescheduled opening dates and a sink still on its way from Marrakesh (not Colin's wisest online purchase) we have a new permanent home for Steam!

We can't wait to welcome you all, here's how we'll be doing things to start with...

🍽Friday & Saturday nights will be our classic locally sourced, bistro menu (2 or 3 course) - please book in advance

🥘Thursday & Sunday nights will be a small plate/sharing menu. A more relaxed way to enjoy a selection of our fave dishes in a tapas style. Bookings taken but not essential, if you fancy a last minute beer and bite to eat, just call in

🍺And yes, there will be beer!!
We are no longer BYOB, we're fully licensed with a selection of local beers & spirits and a fab little wine list

☀️In the coming weeks we'll be introducing an outdoor area to relax with a drink

📕We're setting up an online reservation system, until then please call or email to book (details in bio)

📋We'll post menus in the coming days, as always they'll change weekly depending on what we fancy cooking and what lovely ingredients are available

🤣🤣🤣

🐑 An un-baa-lievable sight greeted our firefighters when they arrived at a call for an animal rescue in Penrith yesterday – and found two sheep and three lambs on the roof of a home.

Our crews used all of their expertise and specialist equipment, including a triple extension ladder and reach pole, to safely rescue the woolly wanderers. They were then handed over to the grateful farmer and a vet.

Please can we ask a favour, when parking at Walna Scar? Please remember we need access through the barriers. We had a report that one of the barriers was blocked but it looks like the car had moved by the time we went to have a look.
Although the vehicles that were parked there we could get past, it would have made it a bit of a squeeze if we had an incident up the Walna Scar track.

Planning a fell walk near Wasdale over Easter?

This Friday (18 April) the free Wasdale Explorer shuttle bus service will begin 🚐

Running from Ravenglass to Wasdale Head, it can drop you off at the starting point for walks to Scafell, Scafell Pike, Great Gable and other fells as well as Wastwater.

We’re delighted that as an RHS-Partner garden we are included in their list of places to enjoy a bluebell walk. We should point out that our bluebells are beginning to show now but will be at their best in early May.
