TIGER, TIGER BURNING BRIGHT ..........

In over 30 years of travelling to India, often more than once in a year, none of us have ever seen a tiger, despite me spending four nights at a friends lodge in a wildlife park and me being told by a lot of people that I definitely would see one there, it was always a case of, "That's a shame you just missed one. It just walked into the Elephant Grass!" (Elephant Grass you probably don't know, is really dense and about 6 feet or more high)

So we had almost given up ever seeing a tiger. Then, out of the blue we were invited to the "Great Indian Travel Bazaar", a big travel trade show, taking place in Jaipur in May. They also follow up the show with short trips. When we saw that there was one which would visit two tiger reserves, we decided to go - but with little expectation of seeing a tiger. We were right with the first reserve we visited, no tigers in two drives, though we could happily have stayed there for a week. The bungalows, food, swimming pool, staff were all fabulous!

After our first experience we weren't very hopeful about the second Reserve either. Getting up at 6 in the morning is not my most favourite activity, but the ranger/driver insisted. So, in a large vehicle, open to all weathers and with little (if any, suspension!!) we and our 17 other companions, after sorting out permits, etc., eventually entered the wildlife park and set off into the jungle, not holding out much hope of success.

Then, at about 8 in the morning, there he was!! A big male, resting at the base of a tree in a shady thicket!!! You've never seen so many cameras and phones all clicking at once!!

After hefty breakfasts and lunches and a wander around a couple more hotels during the middle of the day, we were back into the park again for an afternoon safari before sunset. All in our group were happy enough after our morning sighting and were not expecting to be so lucky again. Surprise, surprise! In the following couple of hours we saw four tigers, some say five!!! Even the ranger and driver said we were very lucky to see so many in one day. We were all just very satisfied.

So, now, if you want to go to India to see tigers (and who doesn't?), we know exactly where we can send you. :-) All you have to do is get in touch!

Oh, we saw many Peacocks and other birds, Hanuman langurs, crocodiles, mongoose, too!!

Mahseer Fishing in the HImalayas

Ladakh has been a destination offered by us since we first visited this beautiful and rugged northern India state in 1995.

In addition to our work with The King of Ladakh and his Ladakh Sustainability Initiative Foundation plans, we are now working on new tours to Ladakh which will all pay attention to the sustainabilty aims being promoted by HH King Jigmed Namgyal Wangchuk.

One tour have not previously offered , is the chance to fish for the fabled Mahseer. Now we can offer such a tour.

By joining one of our small group tours you will be venturing into the heart of the majestic Himalayas and will experience one of the world's most exhilarating angling adventures.

As the Mahseer is revered as one of the toughest game fish, angling for it will make this tour a fishing experience like no other.

Often called the 'Tiger of the River,' the Mahseer is a wonderful combination of breathtaking beauty and sheer raw power. Celebrated for its incredible power, size, and endurance, it is renowned for the fight that it puts up, utilising the fast-flowing waters of the Himalayan rivers to its advantage. Weighing up to 100 pounds in some regions, this freshwater giant tests anglers' skill and stamina.

The Mahseer's fierce resistance has earned it a special place in the hearts of anglers worldwide making our tour a fishing adventure of a lifetime but definitely not one for the faint-hearted.

Joining one of our small group expeditions to seek out the favoured haunts of the Mahseer will take you to the borders of India and Nepal, where our very experienced fishing experts, who are highly thought of by the King of Ladakh himself, will guide and support you throughout. They will help you select the appropriate fishing gear and then es**rt you to the perfect spots for fishing for the ultimate prize - a glistening, beautiful specimen Mahseer.

Naturally all fish caught are to be returned to the river unharmed - a sustainable 'catch and release' is strictly adhered to.

This is not a luxury tour but our fishing camps are equipped with the best “safari style” furniture and tents to ensure your comfort. Our experienced chefs prepare elaborate meals in the camp which, at night, are eaten around a roaring bonfire, under star-lit skies as stories of the day's events are shared.

More details about this amazing opportunity to test your fishing skills can be found on our website www.neiuk.co.uk or ring us on 01269 823355. We'll be happy to talk with you.
