Glenys Garnett Creative Images www.ggcreativeimages.co.uk is a photography website and blog showcasing the best of my work and the other services I offer. I live and work in Wakefield as a full time freelance Photographer, Artist and Graphic Designer and work exclusively in the digital medium. I have a love of nature; the mountains, the sea, animals, birds, trees and I try to find a way to present

an image to the viewer that will allow them to see the world through my eyes. I am often awed by the complexity of nature and how it presents itself in form, texture and a myriad of colours. All of my life experiences are reflected through my imagery, and this continues to shape me as a photographer and artist. There isn’t a message to my work other than to present it in a form that can be enjoyed and occasionally put on the wall, and I’m happy with that.

Someone else's memory - a small series, borrowing from Tarkovsky Polaroids.
Snapshots from a stranger's life—intimate, imperfect, and quietly heartbreaking—like small breaths from someone else's past.

"Are, bure, boke" a Japanese term meaning visible grain, intentionally out of focus subjects, and intentional blurriness, a technique used by the photographer Daido Moriyama. His work often ignores formal compositional rules and many of his images are high contrast and gritty with a dark aesthetic. Not to everyone's taste but I love his work. It is a very snapshot approach imbued with a sense of randomness and serendipity as he doesn't always use the viewfinder.

I'm a bit more ordered than that but it does loosen you up to not thinking too much about composition and more about creating movement and emotion in your images.
I took these this morning while out and about, the miserable weather helped ☔️

It's now been 4 weeks since my heart attack and I have to say I'm feeling better than ever and I'm starting to get my photo mojo back. Whilst it's been quite a scary time for me my confidence has started to return and I'm back to my normal routine of daily walks with a little bit extra thrown in to improve my stamina and overall body strength. Over the weeks I've been recovering I've been looking at a lot of my past work to get some spark of creativity going and to get ideas for new projects. I did lots of work during covid using paints, collage, book making etc so it's been lovely to look back on them with a fresh eye. These are a series of images I made from alcohol paintings and presented in a book format. They are not 'photoshopped' just straight macro images edited in Lightroom and what struck me most about them is how they look like images from Google earth or satellite images taken by Hubble hence my title for them is InkArt Macroverse

We amass so many images these days that it's easy to just let them sit on a hard drive so get your work printed and make a book or a zine, anything to get them into to the real world to live as an artefact.

Crushed - a typology

I make no excuses for photographing mundane and ordinary things that interest me. In the wake of my recent health problems, I have been staying fairly close to home on my daily walks and it is easy to run out of subjects to photograph, so I try to think creatively about my surroundings and the items I come across. I sometimes collect litter on my way around so this little project has a win-win objective, I get to do some photographic typology and my bit for re-cycling. It's fun

I want to thank everyone who took the time out to send me good wishes following my heart attack in January, is it only 2 weeks ago, unbelievable. I'm feeling very good and positive about things going forward and whilst I'm out and about doing some walking, and a little driving I'm taking it steady building up my confidence which has been shaken quite a bit. I won't be doing any long treks for a while so my photography might focus on things closer to home, and I do enjoy a bit of soft focus flower photgraphy, so here is a picture taken with my Daguerreotype lens, which is the softest lens I have.

Well this has been the view from my hospital bed for the last 36 hours. Whilst I love views of Leeds it wasn't a picture I wanted to take. I was admitted to LGI on Friday night following a heart attack and quickly rushed into the Catheter Lab to have a stent fitted in my right coronary artery. I seemed to have made a miraculous recovery following the most dedicated and professional work of the NHS. I'm now sat waiting to go home and hopefully make a full, if somewhat life changing recovery. I'm going to spend a few weeks chilling and getting back on my feet and maybe occasionally get out the camera.
Take care everyone we never know what life will throw at us especially when you least expect it

As much as I love the colours of autumn and winter there is always a tinge of sadness to it for me, a sign of things fading and passing, like the last glow of the sun before it slips below the horizon. It sums up my thoughts and mood at the moment. I've always loved trees and doing woodland photography has always given me that sense of tranquility and calm, being in and part of nature. There is no secret or formula to this type of photography but it can be difficult to cut through the messiness of this environment to create meaningful compositions. My advice, as always, is to keep it simple, find the beauty from within, look for the light and try to express your thoughts and feelings of the beauty that surrounds us. I find positivity when I make these images and try to maintain a sense of optimism that things and times change and we just have to learn to bend and flow with whatever we have to deal with, just like nature.

On my way home from Newsome today I stopped at a little wood near Thunder Bridge for a little wander mainly because there are some lovely Beech trees that always look good in Autumn. I must remember to come back on a misty/foggy day

Had a drive over to Newsome today to check out the old derelict Newsome Mill, I think some locals are trying to save the clock tower but it looks well beyond repair to me however it's always nice to see our old heritage buildings saved and put to new use. I hope they manage it. Made mostly straight shots then popped on the combo ND+Black Mist filter for some ICM and multiple exposures. Found a great place for coffee and brunch, the Northlight Cafe at Brooke's Mill.

These were taken with the Fuji 35mm f1.4 lens, it's one of the older ones but remains one of my favourite lenses. It's not a perfect lens but the character and filmic quality to it means I usually always have it with me most of the time for day to day to shooting. Coupled with a Fuji film sim in this case Grizzly Ride gives me a low saturation vintage look to the image.
It's even more apparent in the second set where I've also added a black mist filter, which is basically a diffusion filter that adds a bit of softness and diffuses any harsh light and used a Kodachrome film sim to add a vintage look to the colour.

Had a proper go with the multiple exposure on the Ricoh GR iiix this afternoon and I'm really happy with the way it works. Very intuitive and easy to use, these are taken using the Bright blend mode, nothing special but just an example of what it can do, and they have been tweaked a little in snapseed otherwise sooc jpgs. The added bonus is it creates a RAW file alongside the jpg as long as you have set to shoot RAW+JPG in the file format settings. Can't wait to do some city stuff with it.
