My short answer… not just yet.
I recently had the chance to drive the VW ID. Buzz, and I have to say, it was a really enjoyable experience.
✅ The drive was incredibly smooth.
✅ The acceleration was impressive—it pulls away much quicker than I expected.
✅ It’s quiet, comfortable, and feels very refined.
However, there were a few things that made me think twice.
🔋 Range anxiety is still real. As someone who regularly travels long distances, I’d constantly be thinking about my remaining battery and where the next charger is. That’s not something I want on a road trip.
📱 The infotainment system is very digital. It took me a while to work out something as simple as changing the air conditioning settings. As a campervan hire company, I couldn’t help but think that some of our customers may find the amount of technology a little overwhelming.
For me, a campervan should be about freedom, simplicity, and exploring without worrying about your next charging stop.
Will electric campervans get there one day? Absolutely. The technology is improving all the time.
But for now, I’m sticking with diesel.
The VW ID. Buzz is a fantastic vehicle, and I genuinely enjoyed driving it, but I’m not quite ready to make the switch.
