A repeat of a tour we ran extremely successfully in 2024.

We are chartering a train to give us a week of rail-travel in a program to travel the whole of the Royal Railway network using YDM4 locomotives to haul our train to both Poipet and Sihanoukville. Highlights should include the Docks lines at Sihanoukville and also a day is planned in the Phnom Penh area to cover all the entire available track in the vicinity of station, locomotive shed and wagon repair shops. On this day it’s planned to use a top & tail formation with locomotives at each end and to change the locomotives as often possible.

Our special train will be formed of air-conditioned stock (hopefully with opening windows in our part of the train) in which we will have room to circulate during the tour. This trip is run in conjunction with Railway Adventures and there are two separate tours using the same train for the majority of the trip. We will have the train to ourselves on 3 of the 8 days though. There will also be a visit to Phnom Penh Locomotive Shed for inspection and photos of the resident fleet and the steam locomotives that reside in their own shed, usually under lock & key, so a on-off opportunity to walk around this historical haven.
So, we should “Clear” Cambodia in one go – ride the entire track, see all the rolling stock including stored and plinthed steam locos. Where there are depots or stabling points, we will have time to see everything present.

Come with us on a rail holiday to the wonderful Slovenia. With less than two million inhabitants, and a few tourists attracted by tales of its idyllic beauty, it is very tranquil and sophisticated. Its beauty has drawn comparisons with Switzerland, a country twice its size but with some similarities. Slovenia is blessed with fantastic, jagged mountains, turquoise rivers and silver lakes, vast subterranean caves and just enough medieval castles to conjure up a fairytale or two!

To top all of this it has some of the most stunningly scenic rail journeys in the whole of Europe. Add to this our special locomotive hauled train with carriages with opening windows and this is a one off trip not to be missed. This is the last opportunity for us to have a special train before these carriages are withdrawn from service.

We also visit the lovely Italian city of Trieste, before taking the international train over the border from Italy to Slovenia.

Dates for the Slovenia enthusiasts trip is agreed with Sz to be three days - 2/3/4 May as that avoids engineering works. We are hoping the tour price will be £175 per person, per day. Note here for the railway enthusiasts. We are looking at two charter train weekend tours (2 or 3 days). In the spring to Slovenia using 664 and 644 locos with carriages with opening windows. These locos and carriages are rapidly reducing in numbers so will be our last chance for such a charter train. Koper is in the itinerary as the steeply gradient original line is being replaced by a new line.

In the autumn to Portugal for a 1400 train along the recently reopened (and greatly realigned) and scenic Beira Alta line and also using loco 9005 for the length of the soon to be reopened Vouga narrow gauge lines. Has been maybe 30 years since 9005 worked a service train.

On this tour we visit Puglia (Apulia), a region in Southern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east and the Ionian Sea to the southeast, with 800 kilometres (497 miles) of coastline. Its most southerly portion, known as the Salento Peninsula, forms the high heel on the “boot” of Italy. The area has fine coastal scenery and cities with medieval and baroque centres where the characteristic Apulian architecture of the 11th to 13th centuries reflect Greek, Byzantine, Norman, and Pisan influences. Puglia is also renowned for its food and wine.
