Modern mid-century hotel @ Greece
The painting 'The Splash' is one of my favourites from David Hockney. Painted in 1967 it reflected the colours of California and a classical modern mid-century look. So I was excited to find and photograph this hotel in Greece with amazingly similar structure and colour palette.

Zaha Hadid's statement, "People think that the most appropriate building is a rectangle, because that's typically the best way of using space, but is that to say that landscape is a waste of space? The world is not a rectangle," reflects her revolutionary approach to architecture. She made this remark in a 2013 interview with The Guardian, challenging conventional architectural norms that prioritize rectangular shapes for their efficiency and simplicity.

Hadid's philosophy was influenced by her experiences in the male-dominated field of architecture, where her avant-garde ideas initially struggled to gain acceptance. Despite facing significant barriers, she persisted and eventually gained recognition for her unique designs that broke away from traditional forms. Her projects, such as the Vitra Fire Station and the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art, exemplify her commitment to creating dynamic, non-rectilinear spaces that interact harmoniously with their environments.

Today is World Architecture Day. To celebrate here is the work of the renown architect Frank Gehry and his amazing Hotel Marques de Riscal, that I photographed in the Rioja region of Spain.
It characterises the trademark curvilinear style of the architect, with elegant flowing canopies of silver, gold and purple/ pink titanium.

commissioned this shoot for a sports pavilion that they designed for a local community in Bournemouth, Fernheath Pavillion. Burnt larch was used for the exterior, a smart and durable material that results in a striking finish for the long low building.
