I’ve put together a little Montenegro travel guide because it’s one of those places that really stays with you.
I went in June for my birthday — a complete surprise from friends — and honestly, they couldn’t have chosen better. It’s such an underrated part of the Adriatic… still relatively unspoilt, great value compared to Dubrovnik and just the most beautiful mix of mountains, coves and clear blue sea.
If you’re thinking about next year’s holidays, here are a few of my favourite bits:
✨ Best time to visit
April to October is warm and perfect for swimming.
July and August are the busiest.
September into early October stays warm but much quieter.
✨ Top places to explore
• Kotor – that incredible old town with mountain views.
• Budva – beaches and a lovely old town.
• Perast – calm, postcard-perfect and charming.
• Sveti Stefan – dramatic coastline and crystal-clear water.
✨ Beaches worth a visit
• Jaz Beach – long, sandy, brilliant for families.
• Mogren Beach – cliffs, clear water, great views.
• Queens Beach – quiet, exclusive, really scenic.
• Becici Beach – organised and ideal for full lazy days.
✨ Food & drink
Fresh Adriatic seafood, black risotto, Njeguši ham, local cheeses and beautiful wines from Podgorica. You won’t struggle to find a lovely café overlooking the water.
✨ Where to stay
Montenegro caters for all budgets:
• Luxury – One&Only Portonovi, Regent Porto Montenegro, The Chedi Luštica Bay
• Mid-range – Iberostar Bellevue, Heritage Grand Perast, Huma Kotor Bay, Hotel Budva
• Budget – guesthouses in Kotor’s Old Town or coastal apartments in Budva/Becici
If you’d like more personalised ideas — including family-friendly hotels, quieter coves, or all-inclusive options where you can still eat out locally — just send me a message.
Montenegro is one of those places that really surprises you in the best way.
