๐ŸŒด Final stop of our 6-month adventure: days 177-200 Thailand ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ

Our final few weeks were spent island hopping around southern Thailand โ€” Krabi, Phi Phi, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Pha-Ngan and Koh Tao โœจ

We started in Krabi with a few relaxing beach days before visiting Railay Beach with its huge limestone cliffs and longtail boats. Next stop was Koh Phi Phi where we stayed on Long Beach, enjoyed evenings in Tonsai and the highlight was our private boat trip to Maya Bay and Pi Leh Bay โ€” crystal clear water, white sand and even tiny sharks swimming in the shallows ๐Ÿ๏ธ

We moved on to Phuket staying near Bang Tao beach, explored colourful Phuket Old Town and a quick trip to lively Patong ๐Ÿ˜…

We then flew to Koh Samui where my daughter joined us for our final 2 weeks. In Chaweng we celebrated my birthday, did a Thai cooking class and took an amazing boat trip around Ang Thong National Park with snorkelling, kayaking and hidden lagoons.

From there we travelled to Koh Pha-Ngan staying in the quiet Thong Nai Pan Noi area then on to Koh Tao, staying in Sairee Beach, a busy resort with lots of backpackers, diving shops and incredible sunsets plus a trip to Koh Nang Yuan to see the famous sandbar viewpoint.

Our final nights were back on Koh Samui in Bo Phut before one last stop in Bangkok and the long journey home after 200 unforgettable days away โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesia | Sumatra Jungle Adventure, Bukit Lawang (Days 170โ€“172)

A short but unforgettable detour took us to Sumatra, flying into Medan before a long journey to Bukit Lawang, a small riverside village on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park. The final stretch was on the back of a motorbike over bumpy tracks โ€” a slightly terrifying start to the adventure!

The next day was all about the jungle. We trekked deep into the rainforest, climbing steep, muddy trails surrounded by wildlife โ€” spotting monkeys, butterflies and even a pit viper snake along the way ๐Ÿ

The highlight was seeing wild orangutans up close โ€” including a mother with her tiny baby and family group. An incredible, once-in-a-lifetime moment and easily one of the most special wildlife experiences of the entire trip.

The adventure didnโ€™t end there โ€” after trekking, we tubed back down the river through gentle rapids, before tackling the 110 steps back up to our hillside accommodation.

A challenging but truly unforgettable experience in the heart of the jungle, before heading back to Penang to continue our stay in Malaysia.

๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ Malaysia | Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Penang & Langkawi (Days 162โ€“170 & 172-177)

Our Malaysia journey began in Kuala Lumpur, a vibrant city where modern skyscrapers meet historic landmarks. We explored the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, Merdeka Square, and the River of Life, along with the impressive National Mosque and the grand Istana Negara. One of the highlights was climbing the 272 colourful steps at the Batu Caves, surrounded by monkeys and towering limestone cliffs ๐Ÿ’

From KL, we travelled by train to Ipoh, a laid-back city known for its colonial architecture, street art and famous white coffee. While there, we took a trip to the Cameron Highlands, where rolling hills of tea plantations stretched as far as the eye could see. We visited traditional tea estates, picked strawberries, and saw local markets โ€” a beautiful contrast to the city.

Next stop was George Town, Penang, a UNESCO World Heritage site full of character. We wandered through streets lined with colourful murals, visited the historic jetties, and enjoyed some incredible food, including a standout meal at a Michelin-selected restaurant.

After a short adventure to Sumatra, we returned to Penang before flying to Langkawi. This tropical island offered a slower pace โ€” pool days, beach time, and exploring spots like Eagle Square and the stunning Tanjung Rhu Beach, with its clear water and jungle-lined coastline. Evenings were spent in Pantai Cenang, a lively beachfront area with bars, restaurants and fire shows.

From buzzing cities and cultural landmarks to tea-covered hills and tropical islands, Malaysia offered a diverse and memorable mix before heading on to our final stop in Thailand!

From Malaysia we took a short flight over to Sumatra to trek in the jungle and hopefully see some orangutans and we were so lucky we saw 4 of them, the youngest only 3 weeks old. It was such a privilege to see them in the wild, incredible! We also saw lots of monkeys and a snake. The last photo is how we traveled back ๐Ÿ’ฆ

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Singapore (Days 159โ€“162)

Our final stop before Malaysia was Singapore โ€” a city that perfectly blends ultra-modern architecture with historic charm, and one of the cleanest places weโ€™ve visited.

We spent our first full day exploring on foot, starting at Clarke Quay and walking past City Hall, the Raffles statue, and along the waterfront to the iconic Merlion, with views across to Marina Bay Sands. From there we circled the bay, stopping at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands before heading up to the Sky Deck for incredible panoramic views over the city.

Next was Gardens by the Bay, one of the highlights of Singapore โ€” from the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest (with its huge 32m indoor waterfall) to the famous Supertree Grove, which lights up at night with an amazing music and light show.

Day two took us to Chinatown, home to the Masjid Jamae Mosque, Sri Mariamman Temple, and the impressive Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, all within walking distance. We then headed to Little India on the MRT, a much busier and more chaotic contrast, full of markets, colours and temples.

A visit to the iconic Raffles Hotel for a Singapore Sling was a must, complete with the tradition of throwing peanut shells on the floor โ€” followed by an evening return to the Supertree Grove to catch the light show in full effect.

Singapore wrapped up with a reminder of just how strict the city is โ€” hearing on the radio news bulletin about someone facing up to 3 years in jail and a hefty fine for scratching a police car with a key ๐Ÿ˜ณ โ€” before flying on to Kuala Lumpur to begin our Malaysia journey โœˆ๏ธ

Still loving The Philippines! After leaving El Nido we got a ferry to Coron which took around 4 hours. As we were only in Coron for a couple of days we stayed in Coron Town and managed to fit in another boat tour around the lagoons and islands - yet more stunning scenery and amazingly clear water ๐Ÿ˜ a short flight from Coron to Cebu and a few days relaxing before our next ferry to Bohol. This one was only 2 hours and was very comfortable! Whilst in Bohol we took an inland trip to see the Tarsiers, the Chocolate Hills which were not quite brown yet and lunch onboard a boat on the river Loboc. Our last stop was a visit to Baclayon Church, the oldest church in the country, built from coral stones.
Our last stop in The Philippines will be Boracay in a couple of days before we move on to Singapore at the end of the week.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Indonesia | Bali, Gili Air & Lombok (Days 125โ€“139)

Our Indonesia journey began in Nusa Dua, Bali, where heavy tropical rain dominated the first few days. When it eased, we explored the coastline before heading inland to Ubud, a lively jungle town full of culture, traffic and great food (and very cheap meals!).

With a private driver, we visited the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (a little too intense with the monkeys!), the Tegallalang Rice Terraces, and the beautiful Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, one of Baliโ€™s key purification sites. We also stopped at Ulu Petanu waterfall and a local plantation to try traditional coffees and teas โ€” including the famous Luwak coffee.

Back on the coast in Sanur, we enjoyed better weather and beach time before taking a fast boat to Gili Air. I had been warned about the ferry crossings ๐Ÿคข With no cars on the island, everything slows down โ€” just bikes, horse carts, beach days and incredible sunsets ๐ŸŒ… The beaches there have very coarse sand, itโ€™s basically coral, so quite hard to walk on!

After a close call with a falling mirror (a bit too close for comfort!), we continued to Lombok, which felt much greener and less developed. Highlights included visiting a traditional weaving village, chasing waterfalls, and discovering Tanjung Aan Beach โ€” powder-white sand, turquoise water and easily one of the best beaches weโ€™ve seen.

We returned to Bali (Jimbaran) for our final days, where the rainy season was more noticeable with debris along the beaches, before flying on to Manila to begin our Philippines leg.

A mix of culture, island life, stunning scenery and unpredictable weather โ€” Indonesia was a real adventure although I think it would be far more enjoyable out of the rainy season ๐ŸŒดโœจ Sanur was definitely my favourite beach resort in Bali but Tanjung Aan beach in Lombok definitely won the best beach we saw in Indonesia. We will be returning to Indonesia in a few weeks for a brief visit to hopefully see the orangutans in the jungle in Sumatra ๐Ÿ˜Š

Beautiful boat trip around the islands near El Nido today. We started at Small Lagoon where the water was unbelievably clear and we kayaked into the lagoon which was so peaceful. Next we moved on to Cadlao Lagoon which we got to swim into before moving on to Pasandigan Cove otherwise known as โ€˜Wonderlandโ€™, Paradise Beach and finally NatNat Beach.
The Philippines is certainly living up to be everything I imagined and more ๐Ÿ˜

Currently in Lombok, Indonesia, and had a great day today trying my hand at weaving, visiting waterfalls, finally finding some rice terraces that are fully grown and ending up at the most beautiful beach I have seen in Indonesia ๐Ÿ˜
