Dad's South African adventure - shark cage diving, Table Mountain hike, whale watching, safari & more!
This one is for the for the more adventurous dad! A chance to escape with friends or travel with an older family on our South African Adventure including shark cage diving, a hike up Table Mountain, whale watching, wine tasting in the Winelands by bicycle plus a 3 day safari including options to switch to a horseback safari or a quad bike safari! £2349pp based on 2 or 4 adults staying in a family room or two standard rooms at the Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town on a bed and breakfast basis for 6 nights and then 3 nights at the Aquila Private Game Reserve on a full board basis with 2 game drives included. Flights depart London Heathrow on 4 September 2022 for 9 nights (plus 2 nights on the plane) and includes private car airport and inter-hotel transfers plus a day Great White shark cage diving, a morning hike up Table Mountain, whale watching from shore (boat trip extra), bike ride through Stellenbosch winelands with two wine tasting stops and two safari game drives (with an option to switch to horseback or quad bike safari).
This itinerary can be amended as requited. There is also an option to add on a Peninsular Tour and a visit to Robben Island (at an extra cost) or extend to include Victoria Falls.
The Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town is situated just five minutes from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and is the perfect location to experience Cape Town's sights. A stylish hotel with modern facilities including a spa and restaurant offering South African specialties at dinner.
The Aquila Private Game Reserve and Spa is set in the pristine Southern Karoo Highlands against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and offers an exciting taste of real Africa just two short hours from Cape Town by road. Home to an enormous variety of game, including the Big Five, Aquila offers two to three hour game drives - the perfect way to see wildlife. Aquila's four-star cottages are built largely from rock, thatch and wood to blend with the environment and offer every comfort including a wooden viewing deck. The Reserve has an outdoor swimming pool, pool bar, cigar lounge and a large dining room where the chef presents a rich variety of authentic South African cuisine. The newly opened African spa features a large heated indoor pool, steam room, sauna, nail bar, 10 treatment rooms, a couple or group treatment room and an outdoor pool.

A Morning Table Mountain Hike - Platteklip Gorge - Enjoy an early morning hike up the front face of Table Mountain which overlooks the City Centre, Table Bay and Robben Island. The route followed was the first recorded route to be hiked by early explorers dating back to the early 1500’s and is the only way to truly appreciate the views from the top of Table Mountain. Once at the top you can amble around taking in the breath taking views and then make your way down with the cable way (cable car ticket for guest account).
Full day Whales and Wine Tour (Wednesday or Friday). Drive along the coast to the fishing village of Hermanus, lapping up the glorious ocean view, eyes peeled for the southern right whales at play. There may be an opportunity to join boat-based whale watching (for own account and subject to availability and weather). Continue to the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven & Earth) valley to visit a boutique winery to sample some wines of outstanding quality before returning to Cape Town via the pretty apple-growing region of Elgin and then continuing through Sir Lowry's Pass witnessing spectacular views on your way back to the Mother City.
White Shark Encounter - A day of adventure - go white shark cage diving (and for the less adventurous there is a viewing platform from the boat!). Great White Sharks... imposing in size, their graceful beauty is perfectly adapted to their environment. Their powerful predatory behaviour and the mysteries surrounding this spectacular creature beckons you to come closer and closer. Experience the White Shark in its natural environment above or under water. And for the less courageous, the boat has a large viewing platform on top and space on the main deck for seating and viewing. Includes breakfast upon arrival, picnic lunch and refreshments on board the boat, all diving equipment and towels and transfers to and from Cape Town City hotel. No previous diving experience is required. Video footage is at an extra charge.
Winelands Biking - Stellenbosch - Go at your own pace on this cycling tour of the winelands. Explore the farm roads and private vineyards of Stellenbosch by bicycle, stopping for two wine tastings visits en-route. Option to upgrade to an electric bike.
There are two game drives included on the safari stay and these can be substituted with a horseback or quad bike safari, subject to availability & confirmation at the time of booking.
