⛳💔So the LIV golf dream as we've known it has seemingly been shattered for now with Chapter 11 bankruptcy and the promise of LIV v2.0.
🏌🤔BUT IN THE BIGGER PICTURE WAS IT ALL SO BAD FOR GOLF?
Possibly not - the PGA & DP World tours have come out winners in the end, but they would be naive and short sighted if they didn't treat the last few years as a reality check.
Maybe we won't miss the loud music, the sh***un starts, the astronomical sign-on and prize money that has distorted golf finances beyond belief.
However maybe we should be open to the different tournament formats from traditional 72 hole strokeplay, treating the paying fans as customers rather than cashflow, team golf events, better TV spectacle more opportunities for golf fans outside the US to see the best players in the World.
Most golf fans probably won't mourn the end of LIV v1.0, and fewer still will feel sympathy for many of the players - especially those who have earned generational wealth from playing a handful of tournaments over the past 36 months.
However, there are lessons to learn and we should show empathy for the people behind the scenes who worked hard to try and make it a success but now find themselves jobless.
THE BIG QUESTION....should the main tours welcome those big hitting box office players like Rahm, DeChambeau, Smith, Niemann, Johnson, Hatton and Kim?
RYDER CUP FUTURE....And what of those at the other end of their careers but possible future Ryder Cup captains like Mickelson, Poulter, Westwood, Casey and Garcia?
Would you let them back on tour?
