stunning wildflower meadow with the medieval side of margate tower (not part of the city walls but part of the walls of St Mary's Abbey). extraordinary to think that in 1644 a mine exploded under this very tower leading to a mini battle between royalists and parliamentary forces right here. the biggest battle of the civil war (Marston moor) took place just a few days later
