๐ŸŒ One of my favourite things about travelling is discovering the little details that tell you what life and community is really like in a place.

I love wandering through local markets, watching the world go by, chatting to people where possible and seeing the everyday side of a destination, things that I might miss by sticking to the usual tourist trail.

These photos from Cambodia reminded me just how much there is to discover when we take the time to look beyond the obvious. ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ญโค๏ธ

Wandering through a local market, discovering unfamiliar ingredients, what everyday foods cost, seeing what people buy and how they go about their dayโ€ฆ these are the moments that can tell us so much more about a place than any postcard ever could.

Itโ€™s about being curious. About understanding local traditions, appreciating different ways of life, and recognising how tourism affects the communities we visit.

Because behind every beautiful destination are real people, families, livelihoods and communities. Our visits can make a positive difference when we travel thoughtfully, support local businesses and respect the places that welcome us.

For me, the best journeys aren't just about the places we see. They're about the people we meet, the things we learn and the different perspectives we bring home.

Travel more, worry less โ€” but always travel with an open mind. โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ’ฌ What do you love discovering when you travel? Are you someone who enjoys exploring local markets, trying unfamiliar foods or simply sitting back with a coffee and watching everyday life unfold?

I'd love to hear about your favourite travel experiences!

And if you're dreaming of a trip that takes you beyond the usual tourist trail, drop me a message at InstaGlobetrotters - let's plan a journey that gives you memories to treasure and a genuine connection with the places you visit.

Day 3 โ€” Kibale Forest & Aardvark Lodge

We chose Uganda for the gorillas, but this amazing country has so much more to offer!

Today we met the chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park.

After a briefing, we headed into the forest with our guide to look for these fascinating primates in their natural habitat. Watching them move through the trees and seeing the forest come alive around us was an experience in its own right.

And it wasn't just about the chimpanzees. The forest is full of birds, butterflies, other primates and the sounds of the natural world.

After our trek, we continued to Queen Elizabeth National Park and settled into Aardvark Lodge.

One of the things that impressed me about our Uganda journey was the variety of accommodation. We had comfortable places to return to after some genuinely adventurous days, and the food and hospitality added so much to the experience.

This is the sort of holiday where you can enjoy wildlife, adventure and a little comfort at the end of the day.

๐Ÿ’ Travel tip: chimpanzee tracking and gorilla trekking are different experiences, so if you're considering both, allow time for each rather than trying to squeeze everything into a rushed itinerary.

Day 2 โ€” Fort Portal & the Mountains of the Moon

The Uganda Hotel I'd give an extra night to! ๐ŸŒฟ

We chose Uganda for the gorillas, but this amazing country has so much more to offer!

Day two took us to Fort Portal, a colourful and lively town in the shadow of the spectacular Rwenzori Mountains, often called the Mountains of the Moon.

The journey itself was part of the adventure, with changing scenery and glimpses of everyday life along the way.

We stayed at Tabebuia Spa and Safari Resort and explored Bigodi, Kyenjojo, the Bigodi Wetland, an awesome place for birdwatching and spotting primates. The area is rich in wildlife, with beautiful tropical vegetation and so much to discover.

Allow an extra night here if you can, the accommodation is outstanding, the food is delicious and there is a pool to enjoy with a fabulous view across the lake.

There's a temptation to rush from one big wildlife experience to the next, but places like Fort Portal deserve time of their own. I'd love to have had longer to enjoy the surroundings and make the most of the resort.

Uganda isn't just about ticking off famous animals. It's about the places between them, too.

๐Ÿ”๏ธ My travel-specialist tip: a well-paced itinerary makes all the difference. Don't spend your entire holiday watching the clock or sitting in a vehicle.
