🍵 Matcha in Japan — Still a Global Trend
Matcha. Matcha. Matcha.
The worldwide craze is still going strong. 🌟

At one café in Asakusa, there were long lines of international visitors stretching outside the shop. 😳
What are they waiting for?
👉 Cold matcha desserts 🍨
“Kind of tastes like vegetables”
“I just want to try it—it’s trending!”
You’ll hear all kinds of reactions. 😆

These days, matcha has become a global flavor, no longer just something you drink.
It’s also known as a superfood, attracting attention for its health benefits. 🫡

✅ Why is matcha considered healthy?
The key is simple:
👉 Matcha is made by grinding whole tea leaves into powder, so you consume all the nutrients—not just an infusion.

Here’s what’s inside:
• Catechins → support antioxidants, fat burning, and anti‑aging
• Theanine → promotes relaxation and a calm focus
• Dietary fiber → helps with digestion and detox
• Caffeine → boosts energy (with a gentler effect than coffee due to theanine)
A surprisingly powerful combination. 😍

🍃 Matcha in Japanese culture
Matcha originally comes from tea ceremony (sado), a traditional Japanese practice focused on hospitality and mindfulness.
In this setting, matcha is valued not just for taste, but for its experience:
• Enhances focus and concentration
• Lets you fully enjoy the tea’s rich flavor and slight bitterness

🍨 Where to try matcha sweets in Tokyo
👉 Omotesando & Harajuku - Trendy cafés and stylish matcha specialty shops
👉 Shibuya - Creative and unique matcha desserts in Tokyo’s trend hub
👉 Asakusa - Traditional atmosphere with classic Japanese‑style sweets
👉 Nihonbashi & Ginza - Long‑established tea shops offering authentic flavors

Early summer is the season of fresh green tea leaves 🍃
If you’re in Japan, it’s the perfect time to enjoy matcha in all its forms—drinks, desserts, and more❣

Massive Travel Rush!? Golden Week Is About to Begin 🇯🇵
From late April to early May, Japan enters a special holiday period known as Golden Week. 🌟

Golden Week is a uniquely Japanese term referring to a series of consecutive national holidays, allowing many people to take extended time off. 🥰
Because of this, people across Japan travel for family visits, sightseeing, and vacations, creating one of the biggest travel periods of the year. 🚙🚌🚝

It’s an exciting and meaningful time for many Japanese people to spend with family and friends.
In 2026, the core Golden Week holidays run from May 2 to May 6.Some people combine these with late‑April holidays (from April 29) to enjoy an even longer break.

⚠️ Hotels and tourist spots become extremely busy, and Shinkansen trains and flights sell out quickly, so extra care is needed when traveling during this time.

🤨 What should travelers be careful about during Golden Week?
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Expect heavy crowds everywhere
• Much busier than a normal weekend
• Popular attractions may have entry restrictions or long waits
🚆 Transportation congestion
• Shinkansen, limited‑express trains, and flights often sell out
• Stations and highways are crowded, causing travel delays
• Advance reservations are essential
⏳ Long waits at tourist spots
• Famous attractions may require hours of waiting
• Restaurants often have long lines (advance reservations recommended)
• Theme parks start filling up early in the morning

✅ Tips to avoid the worst crowds
• Consider visiting areas near famous destinations, not just the main spots
• Prepare multiple sightseeing options instead of relying on one place
• Purchase a transport IC card (Suica, PASMO, etc.) in advance
• Even weekdays are busy—don’t underestimate the crowds

Golden Week fills Japan with a festive, excited atmosphere. ✨✨With good planning and patience, it’s still possible to enjoy sightseeing during this special season. ✌️

🌟 Popular destinations during Golden Week
• Higashimokoto Shibazakura Park (Hokkaido – Shibazakura Festival from May 3)
• Hitachi Seaside Park (Ibaraki – nemophila flowers in full bloom)
• Ashikaga Flower Park (Tochigi – wisteria at its peak)
• Kamikochi (Nagano – refreshing alpine scenery and fresh greenery)
• Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (Nagano & Toyama – Snow Wall Walk)

🌸 Spring Cherry Blossoms in Hokkaido — Why This Season Is Special
While cherry blossoms have already fallen in cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Sendai—and greenery is starting to hint at summer—Japan stretches long from north to south. 😜
That means spring in Hokkaido is just getting started. 🌸🌸

👍 Why cherry‑blossom season in Hokkaido is so special
🌸 ① Wide‑open landscapes
Cherry blossoms bloom against Hokkaido’s vast land, open skies, and scenery you won’t find anywhere else in Japan.
🌸 ② The latest cherry blossoms in Japan
Hokkaido has the latest blooming sakura in the country.
Even if you missed cherry blossoms elsewhere, there’s still a chance to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing) here.
🌸 ③ Plum and cherry blossoms blooming together
Because of the cooler climate, flowers bloom all at once when temperatures rise.
This creates rare scenes of plum blossoms and cherry blossoms in bloom at the same time.
🌸 ④ Sakura + food culture
Some spots even let you enjoy Hokkaido’s famous Genghis Khan (style of lamb barbecue) while viewing cherry blossoms.
🌸 ⑤ Bold, colorful cherry blossoms
Deep‑pink Ezo‑yamazakura trees are common here, offering a more vibrant and powerful look compared to sakura in other regions.

👍 Recommended cherry‑blossom spots in Hokkaido
🌸 Nijukken Road Cherry Blossom Avenue (Shinhidaka Town)
A true Hokkaido‑only scenery!
About 2,000 cherry trees line a straight road stretching 7 kilometers.
🌸 Goryokaku Park (Hakodate City)
Around 1,500 cherry trees surround a rare, star‑shaped fortress moat—something you won’t see anywhere else.
🌸 Matsumae Park (Matsumae Town)
Cherry blossoms paired with castles, samurai residences, and historic buildings—a beautiful blend of history and spring scenery.
🌸 Maruyama Park (Sapporo City)
A popular local park and easy to reach—about 20 minutes by train from Sapporo Station.

⭐ Kamikochi Season Is Open — Time for Alpine Scenery & Easy Hiking ⭐
Dramatic peaks rising over 3,000 meters, crystal‑clear rivers, and fresh spring greenery… 🌲
Kamikochi brings together some of Japan’s most beautiful natural scenery in one place. 😆
The view from its iconic suspension bridge looks almost like a painting. 😍

With so much nature to enjoy, what’s the best way to spend your time in Kamikochi?
Here are a few ideas, depending on how relaxed—or active—you’d like your day to be. ⛰️

🚶‍♀️ Take it easy: a gentle walk
Private cars are not allowed in Kamikochi, so access is by sightseeing bus or shuttle bus only.
From the bus terminal, it’s about a 10‑minute walk to Kappa Bridge, the symbol of Kamikochi.
Around the bridge, you’ll find hotels, small shops, and places to rest.
If you’d like to relax and enjoy the scenery at a slow pace, this area is perfect.

🥾 Explore more: scenic hiking
If you want to fully immerse yourself in nature, try hiking.
Well‑maintained walking trails run both upstream and downstream from Kappa Bridge.
• Downstream: Taisho Pond, known for its standing dead trees and quiet beauty
• Upstream: Myojin Pond, with a mysterious atmosphere. Nearby is Kamonji Hut, a popular rest stop famous for its grilled char (iwana).

☕ Slow down: a refined tea break
How about coffee and cake at a historic mountain hotel?
At Kamikochi Imperial Hotel or Gosenjaku Hotel, you can enjoy a calm tea time in a classic, elegant setting.

April and May are the season of vibrant fresh greenery. ✨
This is a special time to experience Japan’s natural beauty at its best. ⛰️

Have You Seen Tokyo’s New Waterfront Landmark — Odaiba Fountain? 🌊✨
A brand‑new attraction opened along the Tokyo Bay waterfront on March 28, 2026.
Known officially as Tokyo Aqua Symphony, the Odaiba Fountain is now lighting up the area with a stunning fountain show that’s quickly becoming one of the city’s newest highlights. 😍

Powerful water jets, synchronized music, and dramatic lighting come together against an unmistakably Tokyo backdrop — with Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower framed in the distance. It’s a view you won’t find anywhere else. ✨

🎶 What makes Tokyo Aqua Symphony special?
• One of the largest fountain shows in the world
• Water jets soaring up to 150 meters high
• A wide fountain stage inspired by cherry blossom petals 🌸
• Music, water, and light seamlessly choreographed into a single performance

The show runs 10 times a day, with each performance lasting about 10 minutes.
The best time to visit is after sunset, when the lights shimmer across Tokyo Bay. 🌃
For the best viewing spot, head to the observation deck at Odaiba Seaside Park.
Best of all, the show is free to watch — making it a perfect stop for a relaxed evening stroll in Odaiba. 👍

🚉 Easy access from central Tokyo
Odaiba itself is part of the experience, with seaside walks, shopping malls, and wide‑open waterfront views.
The fountain is easy to reach by public transport:
• Yurikamome Line: 3‑minute walk from Daiba Station, 10‑minute walk from Odaiba‑kaihin‑koen Station
• Rinkai Line: 10‑minute walk from Tokyo Teleport Station

If you’re visiting Tokyo in 2026, Tokyo Aqua Symphony is a great way to experience the city’s modern side by the water. It pairs perfectly with shopping, dining, or simply enjoying the night views of Tokyo Bay. 🌙

We visited some of Japan’s favorite cherry‑blossom spots — in Fukushima 🌸🌸
Fukushima Prefecture is home to cherry‑blossom scenery that many Japanese travelers love.
This time, we visited three unforgettable spots worth planning a spring trip around. ✨

🌸① Miharu Takizakura - One of the most famous cherry trees in Japan. 😍
This majestic weeping cherry tree is said to be over 1,000 years old, and its sheer size is striking even from a distance.
In spring, bright yellow rapeseed flowers bloom around it, creating a beautiful contrast of pink blossoms, yellow fields, and blue sky. ❤️
It’s a truly iconic sakura scene.

🌸② Nicchu Line Weeping Cherry Blossom Avenue - A rising star among cherry‑blossom spots. 🌸
Located in Kitakata City, famous for its ramen culture. 🍜
Along a 3‑kilometer walking path built on a former railway line, rows of weeping cherry trees create what’s often called a “sakura tunnel.”
Look up and you’ll see waves of soft pink branches swaying gently overhead—like walking beneath flowing curtains of blossoms. 😍✨
It’s a cherry‑blossom experience you won’t easily find elsewhere.

🌸③ Hanamiyama — “Fukushima’s Peach Blossom Paradise”
Often described as a real‑life peach blossom paradise, Hanamiyama lives up to its name. 🌺
The entire hill and surrounding area turn into a sea of flowers—pink, yellow, white, and more—stretching as far as the eye can see.
Strolling along these colorful paths feels like walking through a living flower garden. 🌟

Fukushima is just about 1.5 hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen, making it an easy and rewarding spring destination.
If you’re visiting Japan during cherry‑blossom season, Fukushima is well worth adding to your list. ✨✨

⭐ Now Fully Open ⭐ Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, celebrating its 55th anniversary, is now officially open. 😍
And the famous Snow Wall Walk (Yuki‑no‑Otani Walk) is underway! ✨

So… how tall are the snow walls this year?

👉 12 meters‼️‼️😆 (as of April 14)

That’s about the height of a 4‑story building.
Standing between towering walls of snow is a breathtaking sight—truly a once‑in‑a‑lifetime winter landscape. ❄️

The Alpine Route is one of Japan’s most iconic mountain destinations.
With its high elevation and deep snow, being well prepared is essential.
Here are a few tips to help you enjoy the Snow Corridor comfortably. 👍

👕 What should you wear?
Temperatures can range from –5°C to –10°C, so it’s very cold.
However, once you start walking, you may feel warm—so layered clothing is best.
• Wear full winter clothing for tops and bottoms
• Bring an outer jacket that’s easy to put on and take off
• Shoes should be waterproof trekking shoes or snow boots
• Avoid smooth or slippery soles

🧤 Useful cold‑weather items
• Gloves
• Scarf
• Knit hat
• Sunglasses (to reduce strong glare from snow)
Prepare well and enjoy one of Japan’s most spectacular snow experiences. ❤️

🌟🌟 Photos show the Snow Wall from last April 🌟🌟

🥢🍚 Experience Kyoto’s Summer Dining Culture
One of Kyoto’s most iconic summer traditions is Kawadoko dining.
From May to September, special dining platforms are set up along rivers or directly above flowing water, allowing guests to enjoy meals while feeling the breeze and listening to the sound of the river. It’s a seasonal food experience found only in Kyoto’s summer. 😋

📜 A brief history
Kawadoko dates back to the Edo period, around 400 years ago. As people gathered along the Kamogawa River during bridge repairs and public events, viewing platforms and food stalls began to appear.
Over time, this evolved into the refined dining culture we see today. 🙂

🌿 Main Kawadoko areas
👉 Kamogawa Area
Here, kawadoko is known as Noryo‑yuka. Raised platforms extend over the river, offering open views during the day and beautiful night scenery after sunset.
👉 Kibune Area
Dining platforms are built directly above the Kibune River, close to the flowing water. The natural cool air makes this area especially refreshing—temperatures can feel up to 10°C cooler than central Kyoto⁉️❄️
👉 Takao Area
Located deep in the mountains along the Kiyotaki River, this area offers a quieter, more tranquil atmosphere surrounded by lush nature.

🍽️ What kind of food is served?
Most venues offer traditional Japanese meals made with seasonal Kyoto ingredients, such as Kyoto vegetables, ayu (sweetfish), and hamo (conger eel). Some places also serve Italian dishes or casual café menus, making kawadoko accessible even for first‑timers. 🥗

⚠️ Kawadoko etiquette
• Make a reservation in advance
• Wear socks if dining on tatami platforms
• Avoid outfits that are too casual or too flashy
• Keep voices down and enjoy the meal calmly

☔ What if it rains?
Rain doesn’t mean cancellation. If it rains before or during your meal, dining is usually moved indoors. Please follow staff instructions rather than canceling last‑minute. If you’re worried about rain, consider avoiding the rainy season (early June to mid‑July). 🌧️

This seasonal cultural experience is a wonderful way to enjoy summer in Kyoto. If you’re visiting during these months, it’s definitely worth a try. ✨✨

🌸🌸 Hidden Cherry Blossom Spots Near Tokyo 🌸🌸

Tokyo has many famous cherry‑blossom spots—but just outside the city, there are beautiful places that even many visitors have never heard of. ✨✨
This time, we’re sharing some less‑known sakura spots near Tokyo, perfect if you’re looking for something a little different. 👍

Our destination is Yamanashi Prefecture, famous for its Mt. Fuji scenery! 🗻

🌸 Yamataka Jindai Zakura
Believed to be around 2,000 years old, this is considered the oldest cherry tree in Japan. Located in the grounds of Jisso‑ji Temple, it is one of Japan’s Three Great Cherry Trees.
The Three Great Cherry Trees of Japan are:
• Miharu Takizakura (Fukushima)
• Usuzumi Zakura (Gifu)
• Yamataka Jindai Zakura (Yamanashi)

🌸 Wanitsuka Cherry Tree
A single, majestic cherry tree standing on a small hill surrounded by farmland. It perfectly represents Japan’s traditional rural landscape.
On clear days, you can even capture a breathtaking photo of cherry blossoms with snow‑capped Mt. Fuji in the background. 📷✨

🌸 Jinroku Zakura Park
Around 600 cherry trees line the area near JR Katsunuma‑Budokyo Station. A former railway line has been turned into a walking path, creating a beautiful cherry‑blossom tunnel. You can also photograph cherry blossoms with passing trains—an experience unique to this season. 🚃
A short walk away, you’ll find local wineries, making it a great spot to combine sakura and wine tasting. 🍷

Yamanashi is one of Japan’s leading fruit‑growing regions. 😋
At this time of year, peach blossoms also bloom throughout the area, turning entire towns into fields of pink. 🌸
It truly feels like a real‑life peach blossom paradise. ❤️

Spring in Yamanashi is something special—be sure to visit if you can. 👋
