A Blackpacking organisation growing a conscious community of Black travelers through culturally thoughtful programs designed to immerse Blackpackers into the communities, organizations and people we work with. Abibikwantuo is a travel organization that provides a safe space within travel for the interrogation of our Black=Afrikan identities for Blackpackers in intimate groups through carefully des

igned and culturally thoughtful travel programs and itineraries.

‘Abibikwantuo’ (ay-bi-bi-quan-to-o) is a concept derived from the merging of two words in Akan, ‘Abibi’ meaning ‘of Black people’ and ‘Kwantuo’ translating to ‘Journey or Travel’ which put together describes a Black People Journey or Travel. Our vision is to grow a socially conscious and united Blackpacking community while increasing travel desirability in Black Afrika. We acknowledge intersectionality but we choose to come together based on the one thing we have in common, Blackness=Afrikaness. Our programs are designed for Black=Afrikan peoples intent on (re)writing and (re)righting our narratives through travel.

We connected as co-founders (Latoya & Yaw) for a short retreat in New York during the holidays. It was a time for us to take a look at our values and set some goals for ourselves for the year. We are looking forward to bringing to the Black travel populace even more meaningful programs which will leave us connected and contributing to the communities we travel to.

The northern part of Ghana is a very special place for us because it affords us the opportunity for deeper immersion through homestays. We are welcomed with open arms as we live with the community and be a part of the community. We do this to inspire new ways of thinking, connections brought forth from relationships.

Come on our trips, to experience this rarely told story which abounds in the north.
