Nzulezo is a historic village in western Ghana, near the Amansuri Wetlands.
The houses, school, and walkways are all built on stilts above a lake, and people move around mainly by canoe.

Nzulezo is beautiful 🇬🇭
It’s a unique village where residents live entirely on water—school, church, market, everything happens on the water.
The journey to the village is calm and serene. Because it’s the dry season and the water level is low, we had to walk a bit longer than usual before taking the boat.
A historical orator explained that the people of Nzulezo chose to live on water long ago as a way of protecting themselves from colonizers who came to capture people.
It’s still absolutely worth visiting—for its deep history and to experience how people live differently around the world.
