♻️ Are you a traveller who actively seeks local companies who talk the talk AND walk the walk when it comes to sustainability?

Check out what Local Greenland has to offer! They have a clear and defined message about how they commit to ethical travel principles so to best benefit our local community and protect our gorgeous nature when guiding you through fjords and mountains.

🇬🇱⬇️ Why Local Workforce Matters:
Using local labor and resources is one of the most important building blocks for Greenland’s development. When jobs and economic benefits stay in Greenland – especially in South Greenland – it leads to greater knowledge, economic growth, and more local career opportunities. This strengthens both the tourism industry and the long-term development of local communities.

At Local Greenland, we believe that tourism should benefit the people who live here. That’s why we only hire locals, ensuring that our tours are led by those who truly know Greenland – its landscapes, its ingredients, its culture, and its stories.

☀️ Supporting the Local Economy – Every job we create strengthens the local community and provides Greenlanders with real job opportunities in tourism and personal development. Keeping jobs local means more skills, more experience, and a stronger economy that benefits Greenland in the long run.

🎭 Preserving Greenlandic Culture – Our guides, captains, and chefs share authentic knowledge and traditions, ensuring that guests experience the real South Greenland. From storytelling and nature to local ingredients, tourism becomes a way to highlight traditions, strengthen local identity, and create pride in our culture.

🌍 Sustainable & Responsible Tourism – By building tourism on Greenlandic knowledge and labor, we ensure an operation that is better adapted to local conditions and Greenland’s nature. We actively work to minimize our environmental footprint, choose sustainable alternatives, use local resources where possible, and ensure that our activities respect the natural environment.

We are also supporting initiatives that support local development – from community events to projects that make our towns and villages more welcoming and a better place to live. Tourism should create value not only for visitors but also for those who live here year-round.

For us, tourism is not just about showcasing places – it’s about connecting people and ensuring that the value of tourism stays in Greenland.
When you travel with Local Greenland, you’re not just exploring – you’re supporting a way of life and a community.🫱🏻‍🫲🏾

Happy International Polar Bear Day! 🐾 In South Greenland, bears have a very special place in our hearts and lives - and they can for travellers, too!

Through a fabulous hyper-local partnership of South Greenland Boat Charter 44, Sermeq Helicopters and professional fishermen, guests can now sightsee for polar bears on the southeast coast of South Greenland as a one-day experience. Fly in, sail around, fly out.

See more on our website www.visitsouthgreenland.com.

South Greenland Boat Charter 44 is actually the only company in South Greenland who is authorised to offer polar bear sightseeing, so this is absolutely an exclusive experience!

After many years of research, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources released findings that the population of polar bears in Southeast Greenland is the world’s most genetically unique population, making the polar bear sightseeing in South Greenland all the more incredible and one-of-a-kind.

Note: it is unlawful to operate drones around polar bears for any reason. By law, permit holders are allowed to approach polar bears by boat to a distance of 200 meters at the closest. Zoom lenses recommended.

Safety is a top priority so we can keep these Greenland Winter activities in the FUN zone!

We just want to give you a little behind-the-scenes look at what we’re doing to ultimately keep travellers safe during a winter adventure in South Greenland ❄️🎿

Thanks to the amazing expertise and knowledge from Arne Hardenberg of Greenland Extreme, we’re able to hold a Snow & Avalanche Safety certificate course to local companies and others who offer winter tours in the backcountry.

Today four local companies from Qaqortoq participated in Day 1 of the two-day course. Next week more will do the same in Nanortalik.

Do you want a truly unique ice experience? Fly with Sermeq Helicopters over South Greenland's vast springtime Sikorsuit sea ice as far as the eye can see! Land on Uunartoq Island and go for a most relaxing dip in the natural hot springs - just relax to the soothing sounds Nature makes. Finally, retreat back to Seaside Whale Hotel at the mouth of Uunartoq Fjord to keep that front row ice view!

See more about Uunartoq hot springs on www.visitsouthgreenland.com, and check out the video, too!

🌟 New experience: Hooded seal trophy hunting with South Greenland Boat Charter 44 🌟

Indigenous knowledge & tradition, an utmost respect for the natural world, self-sufficiency & food security through sustainable hunting practices, these are essentially the most central concepts for culture in Greenland. In the Nanortalik area, the southernmost reaches of South Greenland, springtime hunting is heavily focused on the Hooded seal (Cystophora cristata) amongst the Sikorsuit sea ice.

Are you a trophy hunter with great respect for nature and indigenous culture looking for a truly unique hunting experience together with local South Greenlandic hunters? Come to Nanortalik in springtime to sail out with the well-established company South Greenland Boat Charter 44, who is authorised to offer Hooded seal trophy hunting experiences for travellers.

Watch this new video to get inspired for your next trophy!

💐 Why buy temporary flowers when you can have handmade forever flowers AND support local artisans at the same time?!

These colourful beauties are made of paper by the ever-creative Nanna Høegh of by Nanna. She has a private atelier and in-home shop open year-round in central Qaqortoq; it is the perfect place to find incredibly unique pieces made with all kinds of materials, especially carved figures, recycled beads and foraged Greenlandic finds like driftwood and stones.
