Why is there a train running through the Ancient Agora? 🚊
Because the train got there first!
When the railway line was cut through the area much of the Ancient Agora was still buried beneath modern Athens. The large-scale excavations didn’t begin until mid 20th century.
Ironically, the construction of the railway helped reveal parts of the ancient city hidden underground.
