🔮Ποιες ήταν οι μάγισσες της Θεσσαλίας;

Αστρομάντισσες ή φαρμακίδες, οι μάγισσες της Θεσσαλίας αποτέλεσαν το ενδιαφέρον δεκάδων αρχαίων μύθων. Τρομερές για τις γνώσεις τους, πλάσματα μαγικά που όλοι φοβούνταν.

Στην ιεροτελεστία της μαγείας πρώτη και καλύτερη σέρνει τον χορό η μυθική σχεδόν Αγλαονίκη η Ηγήτορος, μάγισσα του 5ου π.Χ. αιώνα από τη Θεσσαλία, διάσημη για την ικανότητά της να προβλέπει τις εκλείψεις του Ηλίου με ακρίβεια ώρας, όπως ακριβώς συνέβαινε με τον περίπου σύγχρονό της Θαλή, τον Μιλήσιο.

Κοινώς η πρώτη χρονολογικά γυναίκα αστρονόμος της αρχαίας Ελλάδα, αλλά για τον κόσμο μάγισσα.

Η ιέρεια της αστρομαντείας, η θρυλική Μυκάλη, μπορούσε να ανεβοκατεβάσει το φεγγάρι. Όταν έπρεπε να εκτελέσει κάποια σπουδαία τελετουργία, στρεφόταν προς το φεγγάρι, το ρωτούσε και το ανάγκαζε να αποκριθεί. Σύμφωνα με τους μύθους, αυτή μαζί με άλλες τους είδους της, μια στο τόσο απήγαγαν τη Σελήνη και για αυτό γίνονταν οι εκλείψεις.

Γυναίκες που μελετούσαν τα ουράνια σώματα και την κίνηση τους, αλλά για τον κόσμο μάγισσες.

Οι Θετταλίδες μάγισσες, που είχαν ως προστάτιδά τους την Εκάτη, που έφτασαν στο απόγειο της δόξας τους. Τη δύναμή τους, την όφειλαν στην άριστη γνώση των φυτών της Οίτης και ιδιαίτερα των τοξικών φαρμακευτικών, που ανάλογα με τη χρήση, γίνονταν φάρμακα ή φαρμάκια, από εκεί και η ονομασία τους, Φαρμακίδες.

Γυναίκες που μελέτησαν και ανέλυσαν τα φυτά της Θεσσαλίας και εξέλιξαν την ιατρική τους χρήση, αλλά για τον κόσμο μάγισσες.

Τώρα πια ελάχιστοι ξέρουν τις ιστορίες τους αλλά είναι σημαντικό να βρουν τη θέση τους στην ιστορία.

L'œuvre appartient à la collection "Les douze mois de l'année" (1968-69), une série d'œuvres purement anthropocentriques et allégoriques de Yannis Tsarouchis, où l'est et l'ouest, le traditionnel et le folklorique, le classique et le moderne coexistent harmonieusement.

*En Grèce, on dit "Καλό μήνα" (Kalo mina) au début de chaque mois. Cette expression signifie "Bon mois" et c'est une manière de souhaiter à quelqu'un un mois positif et prospère. C'est une tradition chaleureuse et amicale qui reflète l'esprit de bienveillance et de convivialité des Grecs.

The work is part of the collection "The twelve months of the year" (1968-69), a purely anthropocentric and allegorical series of paintings by Yannis Tsarouchis, where east and west, traditional and folk with classical and modern coexist harmoniously.
* In Greece, it's customary to say "Καλό μήνα" (Kalo mina) at the beginning of each month. This phrase translates to "Good month" and is a way of wishing someone a positive and prosperous month ahead. It's a warm and friendly tradition that reflects the Greek spirit of well-wishing and community.

The TV house of the Durrells (Villa Posilippo) serves as a stand-in for their real villa, which Gerald nicknamed the "Daffodil - Yellow Villa" (Villa Anemoyanni - last photo).

“The new villa was enormous, a tall, square Venetian mansion, with faded daffodil-yellow walls, green shutters, and a fox-red roof. It stood on a hill overlooking the sea, surrounded by unkempt olive groves and silent orchards of lemon and orange trees. The whole place had an atmosphere of ancient melancholy about it: the house with its cracked and peeling walls, its tremendous echoing rooms, its verandas piled high with drifts of last year’s leaves and so overgrown with creepers and vines that the lower rooms were in a perpetual green twilight; the little walled and sunken garden that ran along one side of the house -its wrought-iron gates scabby with rust- had roses, anemones, and geraniums sprawling across the weed-grown paths, and the shaggy, untended tangerine trees were so thick with flowers that the scent was almost overpowering; beyond the garden the orchards were still and silent, except for the hum of bees and an occasional splutter of birds among the leaves. The house and land were gently, sadly decaying, lying forgotten on the hillside overlooking the shining sea and the dark, eroded hills of Albania. Στην Αθήνα, πολλές δεκαετίες προ του Α' Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου, τα Κούλουμα εορτάζονταν στις πλαγιές του λόφου του Φιλοπάππου, όπου οι Αθηναίοι έτρωγαν κι έπιναν καθισμένοι στους βράχους από το μεσημέρι μέχρι τη δύση του ήλιου. Οι περισσότεροι χόρευαν υπό τους ήχους πλανόδιων μουσικών, κατά παρέες, είτε δημοτικούς είτε λαϊκούς χορούς υπό τους ήχους λατέρνας.
Το σούρουπο όλοι οι Ρουμελιώτες γαλατάδες της Αθήνας έστηναν λαμπρό χορό –κυρίως τσάμικο– γύρω από τους στύλους του Ολυμπίου Διός, παρουσία των βασιλέων και πλήθους κόσμου.

Σήμερα, τα Κούλουμα εορτάζονται σχεδόν σε όλες τις πόλεις της Ελλάδας με το χαρακτηριστικό έθιμο του πετάγματος του χαρταετού.

Για την ετυμολογία του ονόματος που παραμένει άγνωστη, όπως και η αρχή του εορτασμού, υπάρχουν πολλές απόψεις. Κατά μερικούς προήλθε από τον αναγραμματισμό της λατινικής λέξης cumulus που σημαίνει σωρός, αφθονία ή επίλογος, υποδηλώνοντας έτσι το πολύ φαγοπότι με πολύ χορό ή το τέλος της εορταστικής περιόδου της αποκριάς.

Ειδικότερα όμως ο Α. Καμπούρογλου σημειώνει ότι ο όρος είναι καθαρά αθηναϊκός και προέρχεται από τις κολόνες του ναού του Ολυμπίου Διός που τις αποκαλούσαν στη νεότερη ιστορία οι Αθηναίοι columna, κόλουμνα, κούλoυμνα, κούλουμα, χωρίς όμως αυτό να προσδιορίζει την αρχή της εορτής που πιθανολογείται κατά την περίοδο της τουρκοκρατίας. Ο ίδιος όμως προσθέτει στις σημειώσεις του ότι ο λόφος επί του οποίου βρίσκεται το Θησείο ονομαζόταν στην αρχή της εποχής του Όθωνα «τριάντα δυο κολόνες».

Oι παλιοί Αθηναίοι έλεγαν: «Μασκαράδες και πολίται, στις κολόνες να βρεθήτε»
