Recognising indigenous rights a key pillar of Guyana’s Biodiversity leadership - NTC Chairman

One of the fundamental principles underpinning Guyana’s approach to biodiversity conservation is its recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples. So says Chairman of the National Toshaos Council (NTC), Derrick John.

In this episode, John notes that the Government of Guyana has consistently ensured indigenous communities are actively involved in major decision-making processes, especially those concerning the environment and sustainable development. He believes this approach to biodiversity leadership is unique as it truly incorporates respect for traditional knowledge at the policy level.
