Immediately following the Panel Session, Parallel Session III on “Consumer Behaviour” and Parallel Session IV on “Organisational Behaviour and Resident Behaviour” were held.

Joining Session III were Dr Neil LI who gave his insights on “Is a picture worth a thousand words? Understanding the role of review photo sentiment and text-photo sentiment disparity using deep learning algorithms”; Dr Richard QIU who spoke on “The Myth of Contactless Hospitality Service: Customers’ Willingness to Pay”; Dr Anyu LIU who shared his views on “Social distancing, trust and postCOVID-19 recovery”; and Prof Basak DENIZCI GUILLET who delivered a speech on the topic of “The joint influence of the timing and framing of an online upselling message on consumer perceptions: the roles of construal level and reactance”.

Parallel Session IV featured Dr Crystal SHI who shared her views on “Beyond the workday: The effect of daily customer interpersonal injustice on hotel employee experiences after work and the next day”; Dr Yitong YU who delivered a speech on the topic of “It's not just the victim: Bystanders' emotional and behavioural reactions towards abusive supervision”; Dr Maxime WANG who gave his perspectives on “An implicit leadership theory lens on leader humility and employee outcomes: Examining individual and organizational contingencies”; Dr Vincent TUNG and Dr Serene TSE who shared their views on “Understanding residents’ attitudes towards tourists: Connecting stereotypes, emotions and behaviours”.

At Parallel Session I “Smart Hospitality and Tourism Technologies”, Dr Hailey SHIN spoke on the topic of “Redefining luxury service with technology implementation: the impact of technology on guest satisfaction and loyalty in a luxury hotel”; Dr Faye HAO shared with us her views on “Contactless service in hospitality: bridging customer equity, experience, delight, satisfaction, and trust”; Dr Abbie-Gayle JOHNSON delivered a speech entitled “Why are smart destinations not all technology-oriented? Examining the development of smart tourism initiatives based on path dependence”; and Dr Catherine CHEUNG shared her insights on “Are Prior Smart Hotel Visiting Experience and Personal Innovativeness Critical to Future Visit Intention?”.

“Firm Performance and Tourism Development” was the theme of Parallel Session II. Joining us we had Dr Michael LIN who gave his perspectives on “Firm Performance During a Crisis: Effects of Adhocracy Culture, Incremental Product Innovation, and Firm Size”; Dr Jinah PARK who spoke on “A Model for Cross-border Tourism Governance in the Greater Bay Area”; Dr Linda WOO who shared her views on “The asset-light business model and firm performance in complex and dynamic environments: The dynamic capabilities view”; and Dr Qu XIAO who delivered a speech entitled “What drives cross-border acquisitions of hotel companies based in an emerging economy? A study on Chinese hotel corporations”.

Following the opening ceremony, we’re privileged to have with us distinguished guests from both the industry and academic at the Opening General Session who shared their insights on the topic of “Embracing the Changes in the Post-pandemic Era”.

Joining us at the session were Dr Jennifer CRONIN, Former President, Wharf Hotels, and Chairman of SHTM Advisory Committee, who spoke on the topic of “Vision for Change”; Mr Steve HOOD, Conference Co-Chair, SVP of Research, STR and Director of SHARE Center, who delivered a speech entitled “Hotel Industry in Post-Pandemic Era”; Prof Billy BAI, SHTM Visiting Chair Professor, who shared his perspectives on “Industry Transformation Toward New Normal”; and Mr Dane CHENG, Executive Director of Hong Kong Tourism Board, who gave a speech entitled “Together Towards New Horizons”.
