The Student Academy Programme provides university students with the opportunity to gain experience with a leading public relations consultancy.

We are seeking candidates who plan to pursue a career in public relations. Candidates should be forward thinking, self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should also have strong writing, interpersonal and organizational skills. Fluency in English and Chinese is essential. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Hong Kong.

Today marks the last day of our 2023 Weber Shandwick Student Academy Program. We are glad to have seen the amazing growth and how the interns have developed the skills towards becoming a full-fledged PR professional. As we are nearing the end of the 2023 Weber Shandwick Student Academy Program, we wanted to delve deep to understand what our interns have learnt throughout the internship.

In the first of this two-part series, we sat down with our interns from the Healthcare, Technology, and Consumer Marketing and Public Affairs practices and asked them "What is the most important takeaway you’ve gained from this internship?".

喺呢三個月嘅暑期實習生計劃入面，每位實習生都會參與唔同嘅項目，從而發展自己嘅專屬技能。今次就邀請到Digital Team嘅實習生同佢哋嘅導師為大家解構日常工作中嘅必備技能，幫助各位同學仔做好準備！✊✊

Throughout the Weber Shandwick Student Academy program, the interns will develop their own unique toolbox of skills by gaining first-hand experience when contributing to our diverse range of projects. This week, we turn to our Digital team, asking our interns and their mentor to highlight key skills that they feel are important in their work. ✊✊

The PR industry’s interviewing process has many nuances that can determine interview success. We sat down with our Consumer Marketing team’s interns and mentor to talk about their interview experience this year to give some advice to future candidates. ✅✅

話咁快實習生們已經加入咗我哋超過一個月，我哋都想關心吓佢哋適唔適應到新嘅工作，所以邀請咗佢哋分享對公關行業嘅印象。一齊嚟睇下其中4個有趣嘅回應啦🤩🤩

❓ 印象1：做得公關就預咗要超時工作？
💡 現實：部分正確！突發情況喺我哋呢行間唔中會發生，但我哋依然重視 work life balance 。

❓ 印象2：大學主修傳理、公共關係先可以投身公關行業？
💡 現實：錯誤！我哋有同事喺大學主修唔同嘅科目，例如生物、法醫科學、環球商業同國際關係等，相比大學主修科目，對公關工作有熱誠比較重要！

❓ 印象3：掌握時機係公關活動嘅成功關鍵？
💡 現實：正確！我哋要緊貼新聞時事同最新報告，先可以捉緊宣傳同其他公關活動嘅最好時機。

❓ 印象4：公關可以隨意發佈任何内容？
💡 現實：錯誤！我哋根據客戶提供嘅内容住掌握最重要嘅資訊同發掘有趣嘅切入點，作爲題材吸引傳媒報導。

After a month, we wanted to check in with our interns and see how they were settling in. We asked if they had any expectations of what it would be like working in the PR industry. There were some interesting responses, we highlighted 4 below 🤩🤩

❓ Expectation: Working at a PR agency = working overtime
💡 Reality: Half-truth! Unforeseen situations naturally arise given the nature of our work, but work life balance is most definitely a priority for us.

❓ Expectation: Only journalism and communication majors work in the PR industry.
💡 Reality: False! A brief look around the office reveals a wide spectrum of majors, from biology and forensic science to global business and international relations.

❓ Expectation: Immaculate timing determines the public’s response to a PR campaign
💡 Reality: Truth! Keeping up with industry news and reports is all part of the job!

❓ Expectation: PR agencies can put out any sort of story they want to the media. 💡 Reality: False! It is important to find the delicate middle point of pitching a compelling story and including a client’s key messages.

一班實習生嚟到Weber Shandwick 呢個大家庭已經就快一個月喇！我哋早前邀請咗每位實習生用一個單詞嚟形容 Weber Shandwick，一齊嚟睇下喇！

即使大家入咗唔同Practice，佢哋嘅第一印象其實有啲相似！實習生們好快就接觸到充滿挑戰性嘅工作，亦非常享受 Weber Shandwick 多元化嘅工作環境~ 我哋都好開心有佢哋嘅加入！

Time flies as the first month has passed since our interns have joined the Weber Shandwick Family. We wanted to know how they were settling in so we asked each of them to tell us the first word that came to mind to summarize their first month.

Despite working across different practices, our interns shared very similar first impressions. Not only were the interns appreciative of the warm welcome they received, their immediate exposure to creative and insightful work also left a strong impression. Even more importantly, many enjoyed working in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Weber Shandwick 本年度嘅暑期實習生終於同大家正式見面啦👏🏻！喺呢三個月入面，有11位實習生加入我哋呢個大家庭🏠，並喺唔同嘅Practice發揮佢哋嘅專長，體驗公關行業嘅工作嘅同時，亦都發掘新嘅技能。我哋希望實習生們能享受呢段實習時光，同我哋一齊創造快樂、美好嘅回憶。

Meet the Class of 2023 of our Weber Shandwick Student Academy! We welcomed 11 new faces to our Weber family and over the next three months, they will work as full-fledged PR professionals to serve clients across our practices. Our interns will develop new skills, hone existing ones, and explore the breadth of work that the PR industry has to offer. But most important of all, we hope that they have fun and enjoy their time with us!

Working hard is important, but taking good care of yourself is paramount. Every Thursday, our office prepares Chinese soup for our colleagues to feel warmth, recharge, and be ready to close the week strong!

2. Your actions define you: What you say and how you say it communicates who you are as a person. Be confident and smile!
