Presented by ArtisTree and Swire, the Imagination Investments exhibition by artist Coco Capitán took place in Hong Kong between 19 Mar to 26 Apr. At the Memory Adoption Bureau, was a collection of everyday photographs gathered from around the world—images that may otherwise have become lost memories. Visitors were described as the “custodians of anonymous pasts” by adopting one of the photos, to inherit the memory it carries.
Most of the slides remained featured aircraft, and the one I chose was likely taken from the ground looking up at the sky. It captured two of the RAF’s most iconic fighters from WW2: the Spitfire and the Hurricane.
After the war, the RAF deployed Spitfires to Hong Kong for defense against the CCP’s threat. Among them was the last variant of Spitfire Mk.24 VN485 of Squadron 80, which remained in Hong Kong for over thirty years. Today, it is preserved as part of the collection at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
