September in Slovenia │ Overview
The beginning of September took us to Kranjska Gora with two hiking groups.
One week each, with a similar itinerary we had put together for them.
🌦️But the weather had a significant say in how both weeks came together.
In the first week a wet forecast moved the Fusine lakes to the start and left Vitranc and Ciprnik hike for a clear day.
In the second week, an orange weather warning pushed Tromeja hike back by two days. It actually worked out perfectly as the one day off ended up being the rainiest day of the week.
The local knowledge paid off here, because we know which trails cope with rain and which ones are only worth it under a clear sky.
📝 Both groups crossed into Italy for the Fusine lakes and walked up Tromeja, the summit where Slovenia, Italy and Austria meet. Then Debela peč at 2014 m, and a day on the viewpoints above Lake Bled.
The first group also climbed 950 metres to Ciprnik straight from the accommodation. The second group went a different way, into the Krnica valley and past the Russian Chapel to Mihov dom, all on foot from the hotel.
One of the best moments came on Debela peč with the second group.
A clear sky and Triglav in full view, with all the peaks around it. ⛰🤩
And of course, there was plenty of good food along the way.
Kranjska klobasa, štruklji, prekmurska gibanica, mushrooms and local trout all made their way onto the table.
Both groups moved as a real team. People waited for each other and helped where it was needed, with a lot of patience going around.
We couldn’t have asked for better groups to spend two weeks hiking with!
