The oceans are the largest, yet still the least explored habitats on our planet. Hidden beneath their surface are extraordinary creatures such as the bioluminescent anglerfish, the leafy seadragon that disguises itself as drifting seaweed, and translucent jellyfish that seem almost otherworldly. Today, on World Oceans Day, we are diving into the depths of our Ocean Life illustration, discovering the fascinating marine creatures hidden among its intricate details. And while we are exploring the treasures of the sea, we cannot help but think of one of our favourite writing instruments: the YSTUDIO Glamour Evolve Ocean Sustainable pens. They do not simply take inspiration from the colours of the ocean, they are, in a way, born from it. The old invention drawings were not merely illustrations. In an age when photography was not yet widespread, they often revealed what a new device was capable of — and sometimes even what existed only as a concept. Maritime innovations were especially fascinating, reflecting humanity’s long-standing desire to conquer and understand the mysteries of the seas and oceans. With William Richardson’s 1880 “swimming apparatus”, speeds of 6 to 9 km/h could be achieved, while Boston inventor Thayer’s aerial towing device applied the principles of kite flight to movement above the water. Equally intriguing was Stoner’s life-saving suit for shipwreck survivors, whose design closely resembled early diving gear.On World Oceans Day, these inventions also remind us that the desire for discovery can only be truly human when accompanied by responsibility. What we seek to understand, we also have a duty to preserve.

Abban a korban, amikor a fényképezés még nem volt általános, sokszor ezek mutatták meg, mire képes egy-egy új szerkezet, sőt azt is, ami még csak tervként létezett. A vízi vívmányok különösen izgalmasak, főleg hogy az ember milyen régóta szeretné meghódítani és megismerni a tengerek és óceánok titkait. Around June, the key rattles with excitement, the letterbox opens — could there be a postcard or a letter inside? We are overcome by the same childlike anticipation we once felt during those innocent summers.
