A few days before Nyepi (the Day of Silence), Balinese Hindus carry sacred ceremony from their temples to the ocean in massive, colorful processions. In Balinese philosophy, the ocean is the source of the "water of life" (Amerta). The goal is to purify the soul and the island, washing away any bad or negative energy from the past year.
