The elegant Galilea Church in Watumea is the oldest church in Minahasa. The small church, almost entirely made of wood, offers a rare glimpse into the regions Christian history, colonial architecture and church-life in the Minahasa as it was around the turn of the 19th century. The authentic light church interior is over a century old, with the oldest element being the wooden pulpit stemming from when the church was ordained in 1872.

Just returned from a camping & hiking adventure with our guest!

We took her on a two day hiking & camping trip to Anak Soputan and experienced a true adventure.

We hiked across the densely forested slopes around the magnificent and awe-inspiring Soputan volcano, waded sulphur rich streams, and camped all by ourselves in a beautiful pine forest kilometers from the nearest village.

The next day, we woke-up before dawn and hiked through an almost prehistoric landscape filled with insectivore pitcher plants and huge tree ferns towards Anak Soputan, the child or side cone of the ever active Mama Soputan. Rappelled down the steep slopes of Sempu or Old Soputan volcano and from there, ascended towards the barren flanks and the rocky summit of Anak Soputan.

The remoteness and primitive circumstances only added to the thrill and we loved the adventure and sense of achievement.
