Perched dramatically above the Atlantic on Northern Ireland’s wild north coast, Mussenden Temple feels suspended between sea and sky.
Built in 1785 by the eccentric Earl Bishop Frederick Hervey, the clifftop temple was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Italy and originally served as his private library. Named in memory of his cousin Frideswide Mussenden, it remains one of the most romantic and iconic landmarks on the island of Ireland.
Today, the temple watches over the crashing waves and the endless coastline of Downhill Demesne.
