Skellig Michael remains closed. Not a single landing permit issued. And with every passing day, the damage deepens.
We represent over 120 tourism businesses across the Skellig Coast — and we’re speaking with one voice: the OPW - Office of Public Works and the Government must act now.
Despite weeks of national media attention and widespread public concern, no landing permits have been issued for Skellig Michael. The 2025 season is already being disrupted. Boats are left circling the island instead of landing.
Bookings are being cancelled. And across the Skellig Coast, businesses — from boatmen and guides to B&Bs, hotels, cafés, restaurants, shops, and tour operators — are suffering the consequences.
Skellig Michael isn’t just a UNESCO site. It’s the backbone of our local economy. Each day of delay means lost income, broken plans, and growing uncertainty for hundreds of families.
We’re calling not just for permits — but for presence. The OPW and government representatives need to come to the Skellig Coast, meet those affected, and see the impact for themselves. Our communities deserve more than silence.
Skellig Michael matters. South Kerry matters. And our tourism season cannot be lost to continued delay.
