It all started in 2016 when we found it very difficult and overwhelming to find accurate information on how to get married in Europe. After going through this arduous process and finally getting married in Northern Ireland, we decided to share our experience and posted our story on a Facebook group to inform and help couples who were in a similar position of when we tried getting married. Soon aft

er, people started contacting us asking for help. From 2016 to 2017 we helped hundreds of couples who needed straightforward information for their own processes. After helping those couples, we were encouraged by them to open our own consultancy. At first, we were a bit reluctant since our focus was just to help others, and not turn it into a business. However, as it got very demanding and this was taking away a lot of our free time since we were both working full time, we decided that it was time to make it formal by opening a business. Sometime later, we started supporting couples with their weddings in multiple locations, as well as providing support for individuals with their residence visas and employment permit applications. Since the beginning, MWeds has grown significantly in terms of improving its processes, making weddings and visas simpler and more straightforward for couples and individuals. As a team, we consult people from all over the world in getting married in Denmark, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland and Brazil. Also, we are happy to help individuals with their Irish Residence permits and Employment Permits in Ireland.

Healthcare continues to be one of the strongest sectors for Employment Permits and these employers have been actively using the system in 2026.

From January to July, the following permits were issued:

203 — Redwood Extended Care Facility
182 — Costern Unlimited Company
154 — Cork University Hospital
148 — Resilience Healthcare
124 — Mowlam Healthcare Services
122 — University Limerick Hospitals Group
117 — InisCare
117 — Nua Healthcare Services
95 — University Hospital Kerry
92 — Galway University Hospital

So, if healthcare is your area, this is a good place to start your job search.

Of course, previous permits don’t mean there’s a vacancy available right now or that every role will qualify for an Employment Permit, but they can show you where international recruitment has already been happening.

Waiting for your IRP renewal?
Here’s where processing currently stands. 🇮🇪

ISD has updated the submission dates currently being processed across the different Stamp categories, so if you’re waiting for your new IRP card, this can give you a better idea of where your application sits in the queue.

If you submitted your application after the date shown for your Stamp category, your application is still queued and will be processed in due course.

ISD is currently experiencing an extremely high volume of IRP renewal applications, and applications are being processed strictly in order of submission date within each Stamp category, to ensure fairness to all applicants.

Once your application has been successfully processed, remember that it may take up to a further 15 business days for your new approved IRP card to arrive by post.

So, if your date hasn’t come up yet, it doesn’t necessarily mean there is an issue with your application, it may simply still be waiting its turn.

⚠️ TWO TEMPORARY MEASURES introduced to support people affected by IRP renewal delays are coming to an end.

From **1 September 2026**, things change:

1️⃣ The temporary measure that extended beyond the usual 12-week period comes to an end, and the standard Notice to Employers rules apply again.

2️⃣ The temporary Travel Confirmation Notice arrangement also ends. If your new IRP card hasn’t arrived yet, we recommend waiting before booking non-essential travel.

If your renewal is pending, keep your renewal receipt and OREG number safely as proof that your application was submitted.

🚨 QUOTA ALMOST FILLED 🚨
Meat Processing Operative

A maximum of 1,000 General Employment Permits was made available for this occupation and demand has now exceeded the available quota.

What does this mean?

Once the quota is fully reached, applications that are still in the processing queue will be rejected.

For this reason, the current guidance is clear:
⚠️ DO NOT SUBMIT new Employment Permit applications for Meat Processing Operatives at this time.

If you already have an application in the processing queue, this does not automatically mean it has been rejected. However, because the quota is oversubscribed, applications remaining in the queue when the limit is reached will be rejected.

This is an important reminder that Employment Permit quotas can directly affect whether an application can proceed, even when other eligibility requirements may be met.

Convention Centre Dublin.

In just six months.

More than 500,000 Irish passports were issued between January and June 2026, and behind that number are some interesting figures.

📍 Dublin, Cork and Antrim recorded the highest numbers across the island:

Dublin: 93,223
Cork: 35,257
Antrim: 17,986

🌍 But the Irish passport reaches far beyond the island.

Only 367,471 of the 500,000+ passports issued during the period went to people living across the 32 counties, meaning more than one in four were issued to Irish citizens living elsewhere.

And where is demand particularly strong outside the Republic?

The latest full-year application figures available, from 2024, show:

1️⃣ Northern Ireland: 128,669 applications
2️⃣ Great Britain: approx. 114,100 applications
3️⃣ United States: 31,825 applications

👀 There is something else new in 2026 too.

Anyone applying since the end of June is receiving Ireland’s newly redesigned passport, featuring advanced security technology alongside a new look inspired by Ireland’s landscapes, wildlife and culture. 🇮🇪

It’s a good reminder that Employment Permit opportunities in Ireland can exist across a wider range of professions than many people realise.

Of course, eligibility always depends on the specific role, permit requirements and individual circumstances.

Does working in HR mean you can get an Employment Permit in Ireland? 🤔

The answer isn't simply yes or no.

It depends on what you actually do in your role.

Some HR positions, especially those focused on routine administrative tasks, are generally not eligible. On the other hand, more strategic or specialist roles may be eligible, depending on the position and the Employment Permit requirements.

When assessing eligibility, factors such as:
✔️ Your responsibilities
✔️ The salary offered
✔️ The occupation itself

can all make a difference.

Every case is different, which is why it's important to look beyond the job title.
