I'm excited to share details about our recent trip to Ireland. As you know, we're always looking for new and exciting destinations to introduce to our customers, and what better way to do that than by experiencing them firsthand? We toured many properties and made valuable connections in preparation for a Top Notch Destinations Ireland getaway in 2026 – so stay tuned!
Ireland is rich in culture and history, and we were eager to explore all it had to offer. Here's a brief overview of our adventure:
**Pre-Departure (Feb 21)**
Our journey began with a stop at the Admirals Lounge for pre-flight refreshments. The guacamole was a highlight, but the rest of the food options were underwhelming. Our first stop was London, where the massive airport and a delayed flight from Charlotte almost caused us to miss our connection. Our baggage was delayed for a few hours and didn't arrive until we were in Dublin. The Aer Lingus flight from London to Dublin was quite bumpy, with a landing that felt rather abrupt.
**Day 1 (Feb 22) - Dublin**
We stayed at Clonclarf Castle and opted for an upgraded room package that included champagne, chocolates, dinner, and breakfast. The staff were incredibly pleasant and accommodating, always going above and beyond to fulfill any requests. While the castle's interior wasn't particularly impressive, the overall stay was enjoyable. The dinner was good, although the filet steak was overcooked. While we enjoyed the experience, we probably wouldn't return for another stay.
Earlier that day, we had lunch at the Yacht Bar. Initially, the staff in the bar area seemed to ignore us, and we had to ask to be seated. We were then directed upstairs, where the service improved slightly but was still lacking. The food was decent but not exceptional.
**Day 2 (Feb 23) - Kilkenny**
We had a fantastic opportunity to tour Lyrath Estate Hotel, a 5-star property with a wonderful spa and a unique design. The lunch and tea were delicious. The hotel also offered archery and falconry excursions at a minimal cost. While we are not particularly fond of birds, the falconry experience was interesting, and the archery was enjoyable enough to consider taking up as a new hobby.
After the tour, we visited Kilkenny Castle, which was steeped in history and had been beautifully restored.
That night, we stayed at the Pembroke Hotel in Kilkenny. The hotel had a lovely scent, and the rooms were clean and modern. The service was also excellent.
**Day 3 (Feb 24) - Cork**
We visited the Waterford Crystal factory, which was a fascinating experience. The intricate work involved in creating crystal pieces was impressive, and we learned about the entire process from start to finish. The factory produces many US memorabilia, including the NBA championship trophy.
We also had a museum tour at the Cobh Heritage Centre.
We continued to Cork for a panoramic city tour before heading to our nearby hotel, Vienna Woods Hotel, for dinner. The dinner at Vienna Woods was amazing! The prime rib was flavored and cooked perfectly, and the chicken was so tender.
Crazy part is we didn't realize this was the food capital of Ireland. We needed a few more days here.
**Day 4, February 25 | Killarney- Galway**
We departed Cork for a morning visit to Blarney Castle, where we had the option to kiss the stone or walk through the gardens. Next, we went to the Park Hotel in Kenmare for a site inspection and light lunch. We then continued to Killarney for dinner and an overnight stay at the Arbutus Hotel. What was great about this hotel was the history, it's family owned and the location. But unfortunately they may have been about it. This one was not one of our favorites and the meal left something to be desired.
Thankfully a few blocks there was a huge amazing bar called J.M Reidy's bar. This bar was like a maze of rooms. The waitress was very delightful and drinks were tasty.
The hotel also had a bar that was also good. They had an all lady's band performance that was entertaining.
**Day 5, February 26 | Killarney - Galway**
We stopped and viewed the Absolutely Hotel in Limerick. This property was modern and right in the city of Limerick, with quick access to everything. We then visited the Cliffs of Moher. This should be considered a wonder of the world. It was very windy and began sleeting as we were climbing the stairs. The sleet came out of nowhere and felt like someone was throwing pebbles in our face. You must dress in layers! It was so bad a family had to hold their child down because the wind was so bad.
We enjoyed a panoramic tour of Galway city before arriving at our hotel, the Ardilaun. In the evening we ate dinner at Kings Head, it was delicious, however if you have dietary restrictions due to allergies it's not the best to accommodate.
We also stopped at a La Vina wine bar. We wish we found this hidden gem earlier in the day.
**Day 6, Thursday 27 February | Dublin**
We headed back to Dublin, not before stopping at Sean's bar. This bar is the oldest bar in the world. So much history is embedded in the walls of this establishment.
Next stop was Newbridge Silverware company. This company began making silverware and at one point would discard the scraps. They began refurbishing the scraps and making ornaments, jewelry and many other items. This place also houses some of the most famous apparel worn by stars such as Princess Diana and Naomi Campbell just to name a few.
Next stop the EPIC, The Irish Emigration Museum. We checked into the Academy Plaza Hotel. This property had no bells or whistles. It is great for maybe a quick one night stay but nothing more. The rooms were so tiny.
Later we enjoyed dinner and traditional Irish entertainment at the Merry Ploughboy Irish Music Pub.
**Day 7 and 8- Dublin**
For the last two nights we stayed at the Riu Gresham property. The property was clean and Centrally located. The rooms were modern and the property also provided a great breakfast buffet.
We stopped at the Confessions Bar, where we were provided great service and suggestions for the remainder of our stay. We also found a great speakeasy that was also a hidden gem called Vintage.
Last stop for dinner was a Dalloo for some delicious African food. The food was seasoned so well and the lamb was very tender. Highly suggest but another gem.
After being on the road so much we enjoyed our final days in Dublin.
One other fascinating thing about Dublin is you can do US pre-clearance and they have a Global Entry lane. Also, they have a lounge for American card holders as well called 51st lounge.
Overall, our trip to Ireland was a fantastic experience, and we can't wait to share it with you in 2026!
