Before finding its way to the Steam Museum, this engine had a very different job…

It once worked at the Jameson Wh***ey Distillery, helping power the production of one of Ireland’s most famous exports. 🥃🇮🇪

Today, our engineer brings it back to life — and for a moment, this piece of industrial history is working again, just as it did all those years ago.

And yes… it still knows how to make an entrance. 🔧💨

Watching the excitement on children's faces as they pull the whistle cord and hear the steam engine come to life never gets old! 🚂 That familiar whistle is not only a highlight for our youngest visitors, but also the signal for everyone relaxing in the café that the Steam Up has begun.

Step into our Model Room to discover an incredible collection of original model trains and other fascinating steam-powered vehicles, then wander through our beautiful Walled Garden for a peaceful stroll surrounded by nature.

Looking for a great family day out? We are located in Straffan, Co. Kildare, just 30 minutes outside of Dublin.

Start your visit in the Model Hall to view early scientific models and prototypes. Next, step into the Michael Owens Power Hall to see our collection of six massive stationary engines. We hold a live steam up every Sunday, where you can experience these machines running live under steam.

Outside, you can explore the historic courtyard and walk through the 18th-century Lodge Park Walled Garden. You can finish your visit with a hot drink at the Baristabike cafe.

Between the historic engineering and the outdoor spaces, there is something for everyone.
