Happy International Women’s Day.
Thank you to all the powerful, wonderful, smart and funny women out there. I am so grateful to you all.
I talked to my daughter earlier today and I said ‘hey Sofia, happy IWD’. After I explained what it was, she said - what does it mean? I said it’s a reminder you can be whatever you want to be. You can also do whatever you choose to do.
She said - Dada, I know that not many girls do this job, but I want to be a scientist. I smiled (had a quick google), and told her all about the amazing female scientist, who are behind the incredible vaccines being created all over the world right now...
Sarah Gilbert (Vaccinologist, Oxford university) Özlem Türeci (CMO, BioNTech), Dr. K Sumathy, leading R&D Bharat Biotech. Nita Patel (leading molecular scientist of Novavax).
She beamed and said it would be her dream one day 💚
But the big questions is - Why does my 9 year old think, girls are “not usually scientists”😞
I have much work to do, society has much work to do. The work starts with me, then continues with both my son and daughter.
Education & knowledge combined with kindness and compassion, while we figure it out, will begin to move us the right way.
Thank you to all the powerful women out there, who will show me & my kids what a new, changed & better world can look like. I commend you, I raise you up, I support you.
We have much work to do.
Let’s keep going 🙌🏻💚
