Meg made a nest between the pots at the back door in April. I discovered her so beautifully camouflaged well into her gestation. I was afraid the intense heat would boil her eggs so I erected a sun screen to help protect her. With a heavy heart I found the empty soft shells one morning and feared the worst as there are so many preditors here living in the woods. What joy to find her family of six beautiful babies frolicking on the lily pads in the pond.
Unfortunately the little family were attacked, I heard the alarm cries and ran over. She has recently returned to the pond with other ducks but I do not know if her babies fared well. I do hope so.

The first few months of the year are always about clean and clear up, usually the worst offender is the shed, repairs to fences and trellises, top dressing the veg beds and borders with well rotted pony manure, making kindling from storm damaged branches and seed sowing for the summer.

I have been picking early purple sprouting broccoli and enjoyed a spring cabbage this week along with onion greens and beetroot leaves.

After such a long tough winter it is heart warming to be able to harvest, to hear the vibrant, cheery bird song, to watch the blue t**s build their nests in the stone wall gaps opposite the window and observe the mad antics of the hares.

The tiny black kitten (Wicca)that appeared here last halloween, who has been living in the shed rather reclusively for six months, sensibly cautious regarding Nala the dog, has blossomed in more ways than one!! Our cottage family is about to explode imminently!

A shout out for homes will be posted soon. If the kittens are like their mum, they will be super cuddly and amazing.

The ponies are well, we managed through the winter, the snow, the frozen water butts and the fodder crisis, so many others had a very tough time this last year.

Well I hope you guys are all well, I have'nt posted for some time, so thought I would catch up.
